Design plans and a project budget are close to being finalized with construction due to start later this fall on Canadian County’s new courthouse complex.
Commissioners met March 31 with representatives of Lingo Construction and MA+ Architecture, approving a scope of work for the project to proceed.
Also participating were members of the Canadian County New Courthouse Building Committee.

A woman was stopped Thursday morning in Geary after she allegedly took her child from her El Reno home. The woman, identified as Shanea Bell, did not have legal custody of the child, police said.
El Reno police said they were called to 2429 Stone Glen Drive about the incident shortly after 6 a.m. on Thursday.
Officers learned the child had been taken from the home by Bell. The woman allegedly left the residence after packing clothes for the child.
An Oklahoma City bombing survivor will be the guest speaker at “Voices for Justice: A Crime Victim Rights Panel and Proclamation” presented by the Canadian County Coordinated Community Response Team.
Dennis Purifoy will share “A Story of Hope” at this event set for 5:30 to 7 p.m. Monday, April 7 at Archery Traditions, 328 Elm in Yukon. Residents across Canadian County are invited to hear his message.
These boxes of clothes and shoes were left on the ground by Wesley United Methodist Church’s Blessing Boxes.
A program official urges area residents wishing to make clothing donations to either contact the church office in advance to make such donations or take those items to local charities set up to handle clothes and shoes.
The Blessing Boxes program is designed for non-perishable food and hygiene products.
El Reno police are looking for a man who allegedly took a package from the front porch of a home on March 27.
Police reports said the incident happened in the 900 block of South Macomb. A woman told police she saw a white male walk onto her porch and steal an Amazon package. The man wore black shorts, a black camo T-shirt and black high top sneakers.
The man then ran and entered a blue Dodge truck. The vehicle left going east on Cavanaugh.
Students enrolled in BlueSTEM AgriLearning Center will present the annual Agriscience Symposium April 15. The event will be from 5 to 6 p.m. at Redlands Community College Building 10, on the west side of the campus.
BlueSTEM students from El Reno High School, Calumet High School, Yukon High School and Epic Charter Schools will display their agriscience research projects and answer questions from the public.
BlueSTEM is a partnership of El Reno schools, USDA at Fort Reno and Redlands Community College.
WASHINGTON ― The Justice Department announced it will send the FBI to address unresolved violent crimes in Indian Country, including crimes relating to missing and murdered indigenous persons.
FBI will send 60 personnel, rotating in 90-day temporary duty assignments over a six-month period.
This operation is the longest and most intense national deployment of FBI resources to address Indian Country crime to date, the Justice Department said.

The new owners of the building that housed El Reno’s VFW Post 382 said there are no definite plans for the structure, but the historic airplane that greets motorists on Route 66 will remain in place.
Tina Base and her husband, Darren, recently purchased the property.
Nancy Salsman, longtime VFW supporter and former president of the organization’s Auxiliary, said the sale was necessary after the Internal Revenue Service threatened to seize the property.
