The proverbial monkey is off the back of Redlands Community College women’s soccer team as the Cougars picked up their first win of the season and in NJCAA Region 2 play last week.

Redlands scored two goals in the second half to defeat Northeastern Oklahoma A&M 2-1 at Memorial Stadium.

The Cougars improved to 1-6-1 on the season and 1-4 in regional action.

Both goals came from Ashanti Lewis off assists by Miya Ingram and Gaby Figueroa. Redlands had 11 shots in the match, led by Lewis with four.

WEATHERFORD - An inconsistent effort on offense and struggles with special teams were main contributors in El Reno High School’s football team suffering a 31-0 shutout to Weatherford in its first road test of the 2024 season.

The loss closed out non-district play for El Reno with a 1-2 record. It marked the sixth time in the last decade for the Indians to suffer a shutout loss on the field and the first in the series with Weatherford.

It was a roller-coaster 24-hour period for El Reno High School’s fast-pitch softball team, with the highlight being a one-run win over Guthrie, the current leader in District 5A-1.

El Reno rallied from four runs down and then held off a late rally by the Bluejays for the 8-7 win. It was just the fifth loss of the season for Guthrie.

A day later, though, El Reno dropped an 8-0 game to Blanchard in the University of Oklahoma Festival, followed by a 6-5 loss to Norman out of Class 6A.

El Reno High School’s volleyball team suffered its fourth straight loss last week, falling in three games on the road to Weatherford.

The 25-18/25-11/25-22 setback to the Eagles, ranked 12th in Class 4A, dropped El Reno to 10-13 for the season.

El Reno had a strong serving night at 92 percent, but trailed the Eagles 9-1 in ace serves. Brantlie Charmasson logged the team’s lone ace serve.

Redlands Community College women’s soccer team is still searching for its first win of the season after dropping two road matches in league play.

The Cougars lost an 11-0 match to NJCAA Region 2 front-runner Seminole State College, before falling 2-0 to Connors State College.

The setbacks left Redlands with an 0-6-1 overall record and an 0-4 mark in the Region 2 standings, which is eighth.

Despite having a five-game district win streak snapped with a 6-2 road loss to front-runner Noble, El Reno High School’s fast-pitch softball team climbed up a spot in the standings.

El Reno slipped to 6-3 in the District 5A-2 standings with the setback to the Bears, but moved to third in the standings following a two-game sweep of Guymon a day earlier by scores of 9-4 and 18-1.

The Indians trailed Carl Albert by a game for second and the Bears by a game and a half for first.

The top two teams in each district earn hosting rights for the regional playoffs.

Despite its first loss of the season, El Reno High School’s football team maintained solid numbers.

In the first full team action of the season, El Reno High School’s cross country teams posted a pair of fourth-place finishes at the 2024 Riverside Invitational in Anadarko.

The girls team recorded a score of 75 points and ran the course with an average time of 19 minutes and 39.70 seconds.

Senior Emmary Elizondo paced the team with a fifth-place finish with a time of 16:37.71, which was 10 seconds faster than Lindsay’s Cheyenne Lamb.

El Reno recently went 1-3 in the Noble tourney with a win over Elgin.

The losses were to Lawton MacArthur, Westmoore and Noble.
