Despite shooting 60 percent from the floor in the fourth period, El Reno High School’s boys basketball team, ranked 11th in Class 5A, could not climb all the way back from a series of first-half miscues. Yet the Indians came close.

Darius Moore made only two free throws in last week’s game with Elgin to kick off the 2020 portion of El Reno High School’s boys basketball schedule, but they were his biggest shots of the season to date.

The two-week break for the holidays proved to be just what El Reno High School’s girls basketball team needed to heal up and reset its direction for 2020. “We had a couple of weeks off and it allowed us to touch back on what we did this summer,” said El Reno head coach Jennifer Douglas.

Before her days as a “football mom,” El Reno native Ilene Scott loved the sport and still watches it on television whenever she can – even at the age of 90. “I’m a big football fan. All my kids played football at either Minco or Kingfisher and I was a football mom for sure.

El Reno High School’s girls basketball team, which fell to No.7 in the Class 5A poll, will try to snap a four-game losing streak Friday at home against Elgin. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.

Despite defeating Weatherford in the final game of the 2019 portion of its schedule, El Reno High School’s boys basketball team slipped out of the Top 10 in the latest Class 5A poll. The Indians are No.13 and the fifth team from the Suburban Conference ranked in the Top 15 of the same poll.
