EHS linksters miss team ticket to state, Richardson earns pass as individual

Shorthanded by a player for the Class 5A West Regional, El Reno High School’s boys golf team fell short of qualifying for the state tournament set to start Monday.

The Indians did advance one golfer to state, being played at the Duncan Golf and Tennis Club, as Bryan Richardson grabbed the fourth individual medalist ticket for those not on a state-bound team.

El Reno archers on target at NASP Western Nationals

Switching from guns to bows and arrows, El Reno High School’s archery team placed 12th overall at the 2022 National Archery in Schools Program (NASP) Western Nationals.

Shooting in Salt Lake City, El Reno amassed 3,238 team points and was one of 25 teams in the 26-team high school division to break the 3,000-point barrier.

The competition was close as the difference from 15th place to national champion Sarcoxie High School out of Missouri was 213 points.

Redlands starts strong in NOC Tonkawa run; drops final three games

Body

What started out as a promising battle with Northern Oklahoma College of Tonkawa turned sour over the final three games as Redlands Community College’s baseball team lost the series to the Mavericks 3-1.

The Cougars took the opening game by a 7-2 score before dropping the final three outings by tallies of 10-9, 12-6 and 21-11.

Those losses left Redlands with a 9-23 record in NJCAA Region 2, Division 2 play and in ninth place.

Calumet reaches regional finals, exits playoff run with Dewar loss

One of three ranked teams in the Class A, Region 5 Championships, Calumet High School’s baseball team reached the title round before dropping an 18-2 decision to fifth-ranked Dewar.

The Chieftains, ranked No.17 in the same poll, posted a 2-2 record in the regional round, losing an earlier game to Dewar by a 4-0 tally.

Calumet defeated No.12 Elmore City/Pernell twice by scores of 13-3 and 15-1.

EHS thinclads compete in SC Championships

PIEDMONT - El Reno High School’s track team took a small mix of freshmen and upperclassmen runners to compete in the 2022 Suburban Conference Track and Field Championships.

Madeline Taylor and Jasmin Caso were the lone varsity runners for the girls. Taylor ran a 15.62-second, 100-meter dash to place 13th, then posted a 31.81-second effort in the 200 meters to take 12th.

Caso ran the 800 meters with a time of four minutes and four seconds to finish in 13th place.

EHS golfers tune up for regional at Bluejays Bash

El Reno High School’s boys golf team tuned up for its run in the upcoming Class 5A West Regional by shooting a 396 team score at the 2022 Guthrie Bluejays Bash.

Playing the North layout at Lake Hefner Golf Course, El Reno had three golfers shoot under 90 for the first time this season. Cooper Park, Dallon Biswell and Bryan Richardson all carded duplicate rounds of 88.

Nick Fox carded a 132, while the Indians fifth team member did not finish due to illness.

Florida bound

Redlands Community College’s golf team will be headed back to Florida for the 2022 NJCAA Women’s Golf Championship after picking up one of five at-large bids.

The Cougars, ranked eighth in the nation, finished third in the Southwest District Championship in Fort Worth, an event which featured three top 10 teams.

Western Texas Community College, fourth nationally, won the district title.

Golden is the second player from the EHS girls team to sign to play at the next level.

Indians wrap 5A-1 run

Key plays in the field and at the plate helped El Reno High School’s baseball team win back-to-back one-run games over Del City last week to close out District 5A-1 action.

With the sweep, the Indians third in league play, El Reno finished in fifth place with an 8-6 record. But that finish could improve a spot depending on the outcome of a Guthrie/Bishop McGuinness makeup game.

El Reno, now 16-18 on the spring, won the first game of the series at the Hub Reed Complex by a 3-2 score.
