EDMOND – While girls wrestling is rather new to the official lineup for the Oklahoma Coaches Association's All-State Games, El Reno High School has a strong tradition of winning in the sport under the OCA banner.

It's something Bentley Sharp wanted to keep intact.

“It's all I have been worried about for a week or more now was my performance,” said Sharp.

Not any more.

Though admitting she was not in the best wrestling shape, Sharp closed out her career in the sport with a 3-0 decision over Madill's Madelyn Ritchie at 235 pounds to cap off the West's 44-24 win over the East.

“I was not in wrestling shape and it was a tough match and I'm happy that I won,” said Sharp.

Sharp, who said she passed on several college offers, is just the third EHS female to earn OCA All-State honors. She is the second to wrestle in the event and EHS is now 2-0 in those matches.

“This was my final match. I got a few offers for college but I didn't accept any of them. So I really wanted to go out with a win,” said Sharp.

The match was scoreless after two periods, with Sharp fending off a takedown move in the waning seconds of the second period. She took the neutral start to open the third period.

“We were both sweaty so I thought my best shot would come off the mat,” said Sharp.

It did with 51 seconds left in the match with a takedown. Sharp then rode out Ritchie without giving up an escape.

The 3-0 win was part of a three-match sweep of the upper weights for the West after the East closed the gap to 29-24.

Canadian County had three wrestlers on the West roster. Sharp won along with Mustang's Decadence Theriot, who posted a 19-0 technical fall. Piedmont's Makaylee Cannon dropped a 2-0 match.
