Despite three close ball games, Calumet High School's baseball team managed only one win during season-opening play in the 2021 Arapaho-Butler Invitational.

The Chieftains defeated Sentinel 8-7 but dropped games to Sterling (8-2) and Navajo (7-3).

Calumet posted a 16-of-65 effort from the plate over the three games for a .246 average. The Chieftains logged 16 walks but struck out 19 times.

Jaxon Olive (.556) led the team with a 5-of-9 effort with a pair of doubles. Wyatt Dean (.444) had two doubles and four base hits, followed by two hits each from Hunter Arnold (.286) and James Daughety (.250).

Caleb Meschberger, Gavin Tinsley, Arnold, Olive and Dean all saw mound time. The group had a line of 23 walks, 22 runs, 20 strikeouts and 16 hits over 17 total innings.
