Indians spikers drop in 5A poll despite wins

Despite winning two straight and four of its last five matches, El Reno High School’s volleyball team slipped a spot in the latest Class 5A poll as the postseason looms near.

El Reno, now 17-11 on the season, dropped to 13th in the polls with a 17-11 overall record.

The Indians defeated Santa Fe South (3-1) at home before taking to the road for a 3-0 win over Hennessey by scores of 25-14/25-11 and 25-2.

State-ranked Chieftains, Tigers ride win streaks into regionals

Calumet High School’s baseball team tuned up for the regional round of the Class B playoffs by defeating No.10 Amber-Pocasset (2A) 7-3 last week to extend its current win streak to four games.

The Chieftains, ranked second in the state, rolled to the District 1 championship with a pair of 10-0 shutouts over Lomega and a 13-5 win over Sentinel.

Calumet logged 30 hits for the four-game run off a .345 average. Nine of those hits went for extra bases including triples from Kingston Arnold and Wyatt Cox.

Union City, Okarche win district titles

Body

Union City and Okarche High School’s fast-pitch softball teams took a step closer to making the Class A state tournament by winning district titles, but both state-ranked clubs will be on the road for regional play.

Union City, ranked No.14 in the state, won the District 15 title with a sweep of Strother (11-0/10-2).

The Tigers dropped a 6-4 game to Class B’s 14th-ranked Davenport in a tuneup game to take a 23-9 record into the regional round.

Cougars pull away from field to win Aggie Fall Invitational

Holding just a three-shot lead going into the final round of the 2025 Aggie Fall Invitational, Redlands Community College women’s golf team carded the best round of the event and final day to run away with the team title.

The Cougars carded a 312 on the Lake Murray Golf Course - 15 shots better than any other team to close with a 54-hole total of 965.

Redlands beat Murray State College’s varsity by 20 strokes and the Aggies JV team by 47 shots.

North Central Texas College was third at 48 shots behind RCC.

Bulldogs air it out in 5A-2 win over El Reno

ALTUS – Though snapping an 11-quarter offensive scoring drought, El Reno High School’s football team wound up on the short end of a 56-22 score in its District 5A-2 opener against Altus.

El Reno has now lost three games in a row to slip to 1-3 on the season. The Indians head into the toughest stretch of the district slate against Carl Albert, Guthrie and Lawton.

Russell Cook’s team got off to a fast start on the second play of the game when Antawan Grayson picked off a pass from Altus quarterback Jeymon Reed and returned it 66 yards for a touchdown.

Pawnee sniffs out perfect game over St. Bernards

Freshman right-hander Zoey Pawnee fell a hit and a walk shy of throwing back-to-back perfect games as El Reno High School’s softball team closed out league play with a sweep of Santa Fe South.

El Reno finished fourth in the District 5A-2 standings with a 5-5 record after winning its final three league outings. That run included shutout wins (12-0/14-0) over the St. Bernards.

In game one, Pawnee struck out the first three batters before allowing a walk to lead off the second inning. She lost the no-hitter with a single in the third but no SFS runners made it past second base.

Newcastle ends winning streak for EHS 13-5

El Reno High School’s fast-pitch softball team had its three-game win streak snapped over the weekend with a 13-5 non-district loss to 20-game winner Newcastle.

The setback dropped El Reno to 12-13 on the season.

The four hits for the Indians included doubles by Brailynn Pawnee and Taylor Acosta as the pair combined for three runs scored and a fourth driven in. Daisy Hall had a two-run single and Alyssa Duran added a one-bagger.

El Reno rallies for walk-off wins

Brailynn Pawnee singled home a run in the bottom of the ninth inning as El Reno High School’s fast-pitch softball team threw a wrench into the District 5A-2 standings with a 5-4 win over Midwest City.

Pawnee’s single was the second straight walk-off hit by the Indians in a 24-hour period and dropped the Bombers into a tie with Guthrie for second place in the league standings.

ER spikers drop first SC outing

El Reno High School’s volleyball team, ranked No.12 in Class 5A, had its two-match win streak halted last week with a 3-2 road loss to Newcastle in Suburban Conference action.

The 25-10/25-17/16-25/18-25/15-11 loss dropped El Reno to 13-11 on the season and 3-1 in league action and out of a first-place tie.

The Indians served at 90 percent and held a 13-9 edge in aces, led by Ava Felton and Jaida Richardson with four each.

Deyana Cookston and Brantlie Charmasson had two aces each and Daily Maples with one.
