RCC splits matches to end road swing

Capping off a four-game road swing, Redlands Community College women’s soccer team was shut out by Rose State 2-0 as the Raiders swept the NJCAA Region 2 series over the Cougars.

Redlands was coming off a 4-0 win over Connors State, which gave the season series to the Cougars – both by shutouts.

The split left the Cougars with a 1-3 mark on the road trip and a 6-6-1 overall record.

Redlands dropped to 4-6 in the overall Region 2 standings for sixth place.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Be it the third try or even the fifth, Calumet High School’s baseball team feels its first-ever state title is nothing but a charm, says head coach Cody Thiessen.

“It took us a while but it’s still a charm with this being the first one for the school and the town. Hard work pays off. These guys have sacrificed so much and worked so hard to be in these situations.

“It’s not like we are new to the situation (state title games), it’s just we've finally overcome and got the win in this game,” said Thiessen.

GUTHRIE – Completing a brutal opening salvo to the District 5A-2 race, El Reno High School’s football team suffered its third shutout loss of the 2025 season at the hands of state-ranked Guthrie.

The Bluejays, ranked fourth in the latest Associated Press Oklahoma High School Football Poll, remain tied for the district lead with a 42-0 decision over the Indians. It was the third straight league game for El Reno to face a team ranked in the top 10 of the AP poll.

Indians stumble in regional bids with MacArthur

DUNCAN - A six-game win streak spanning five years came to an end last week as Lawton MacArthur defeated El Reno High School’s fast-pitch softball team twice in the 2025 Class 5A Region 1 Championships.

El Reno had defeated the Highlanders 11-0 earlier this season and logged a 100-17 edge in runs scored over the win streak, dating back to 2020. Four of those wins came in the regional playoffs, two in 2023 and twice last season.

El Reno High School’s volleyball team closed out the regular season last week on a two-game losing streak after dropping a 3-2 decision to Class 5A’s No.11 Duncan.

El Reno, ranked No.14 in the same poll, headed into the regional round of the playoffs with an 18-13 season record.

The Indians took the first game 25-23 but dropped the next two games by a combined 16 points.

El Reno then forced a fifth game with a 25-19 victory in game four, but lost the tiebreaking fifth set 15-13.

Kaleb Thiessen has posted many highlight reel-worthy plays over the course of his high school career.

Yet the one play that showed just why Texas Tech showed interest in the Calumet High School senior and eventually landed his commitment came on the final pitch of the Class B State Championship game.

Wolves rally bites El Reno

EDMOND – Seven defensive errors allowed Edmond Santa Fe to rally twice to defeat El Reno High School’s fast-pitch softball team 4-3 in the regular season finale for both schools.

El Reno slipped to 13-16 on the season with the one-run loss, its third of the year, and drops Bri Michalicka’s team to 3-7 against Class 6A programs.

The Indians were slated to join Lawton MacArthur (9-20) and host Duncan (25-9) for the Class 5A Region 1 Championship.
