Once thought to be out of postseason contention, El Reno High School’s boys soccer team has played itself back into the talk for the 2021 Class 5A playoffs.

El Reno defeated Del City last week 2-1 for its first back-to back-victories of the season. The Indians improved to 4-8 overall but more importantly, 3-2 in the District 5A-1 standings.

The top four teams make the playoffs and El Reno is now tied with Guymon for fourth place. The Tigers play at El Reno Friday night.

Much like the girls a few days earlier, El Reno High School’s two boys tennis players ran into stout competition at the 2021 Guthrie Invitational.

Xiven Wallin, playing No.1 singles, dropped straight set losses to Classen’s Mason Fair and Piedmont’s Bradley Carr. After a third-round bye, he fell 6-1/6-0 to Tulsa Edison’s Jackson Colliam in the 13th-place match.

El Reno High School’s baseball team went on the road over the weekend to play Chickasha in the U.S. 81 rivalry series.

The Chicks came away with an 8-0 win over EHS as the Indians suffered their second shutout loss in the past three games to slip to 12-13 on the season.

The Indians were slated to play a doubleheader on Monday at the Hub Reed Complex against District 5A-1 leader Carl Albert. El Reno is tied for third in the district with Guthrie at 8-2.

Josh Harrel picked up his second win in his last three starts over the weekend to help Redlands Community College’s baseball team avoid a sweep against Carl Albert State College.

The Vikings took the first three games of the series by scores of 14-7/13-3/6-4 but could not crack the scoreboard against Harrel in a 10-0 win by the Cougars.

Redlands improved to 10-27 on the season and 3-13 in Division 2 of the Oklahoma Collegiate Athletic Conference standings.

El Reno High School’s baseball team had its eight-game league win streak snapped last week as the Indians dropped a District 5A-2 twinbill to the Piedmont Wildcats.

Piedmont, one of the three unbeaten teams in the district along with Carl Albert, blanked El Reno 9-0 at the Hub Reed Complex. The Wildcats then won the home game with EHS by a 12-2 margin.

El Reno slipped to 12-12 on the season with the losses and 8-2 in the District 5A-2 standings, tied for third with Guthrie.

El Reno High School’s boys soccer team stormed back into the win column last week, downing Guthrie with its highest single-match scoring total of the season. The Indians 4-1 win lifted El Reno to 3-8 on the season and 2-2 in the District 5A-1 standings.

El Reno dominated the winless Bluejays in total shots (34-6), shots on goal (17-4) and possessions (70-30), while both teams had one corner kick each.

Edgar Garcia had the hat trick for El Reno, scoring three goals off his team-leading 16 shots.

While El Reno High School seems to have dodged most of the COVID-19 troubles this spring, the same cannot be said for the Indians opponents.

The day before both El Reno soccer teams were set to travel to Guthrie, the Bluejays girls squad was placed on a 10-day quarantine due to exposure to the coronavirus.

According to El Reno head coach Andrea Williams, the Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association is making Guthrie take a “no contest” declaration on the three matches it will miss due to the quarantine.

Two El Reno High School seniors have signed national letters of intent to play college sports.

Jaylin Reveles signed to play basketball at Baptist Bible College in Springfield, Mo.

Wyatt Compton signed to wrestle for Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, Ark.

El Reno was back on the track recently with thinclads competing in two meets within a 24-hour period, including the tough Carl Albert Invitational.

Before the trip to Midwest City, El Reno took part in the Bridge Creek Invitational, with the girls getting a silver-medal finish from thrower Ochien Gross. She popped off a shot-put toss of 30 feet, 10.5 inches.

On the track, Gracie Wieland had the best finish in the 200-meter dash in 25th place, crossing the line in 31.09 seconds. Aleilah Big Eagle Hill (34.66) was 43rd and Kylie Randall (35.87) earned 44th.

It was a full house at the Oklahoma City Tennis Center last week as El Reno High School’s girls tennis team took on stacked brackets in the 2021 Guthrie Invitational.

El Reno’s four entries in the event all placed out of the top 10, but all earned at least one victory in four matches each.
