El Reno High School’s volleyball team stepped closer to another 20-win season last week with a 3-0 victory over Weatherford.

The 25-12/25-12/25-18 decision lifted the Indians, ranked 11th in Class 5A, to 18-11 on the season.

El Reno served at 93 percent against the Eagles with 12 aces, 11 of those from Bailey Denwalt and one by Madison Patswald.

At the net, the offense closed with a .206 hitting percentage with 33 kills against 12 errors. Avery Peffer had a team-high 14 kills, Denwalt with nine and Emma Patswald with four.

RCC soccer snaps losing streak; golf team runner-up

An unassisted goal by Marissa Kirkendall with 2:07 left in overtime snapped a 15-match on-field losing streak for Redlands Community College’s soccer team, defeating Murray State College 3-2.

Redlands improved to 2-4 on the season and in the NJCAA Region 2 standings with the win. The last on-field win for the Cougars was over the same Murray State team back in April during the COVID-19 delayed 2020 season.

The other win this season for Redlands was a forfeit by Seminole State College.

Union City makes district finals; Chieftains ousted

Union City High School’s softball team reached the title round of the Class A, District 12 Championships recently before having its season end with back-to-back losses to ninth-ranked Cyril.

The Tigers defeated Waurika 11-3 before dropping the games to the Pirates by scores of 6-0 and 9-0 . Those losses left Union City with a 15-13 overall record.

The team went 22-of-83 (.265) from the plate, getting a double from Kylie McCoy, a triple from Makenna DeLong and a home run by Makinzie DeLong.

Calumet bows out to Dale; Tigers exit playoffs in two

Rebounding from a first-round loss to fifth-ranked Dale, Calumet High School’s baseball team reached the finals of the Class A, District 4 Championships before bowing out to the Pirates.

The Chieftains 10-0 and 12-2 losses to Dale were split by a 13-3 win over Okarche. Calumet closed the fall season with an 8-11 overall record.

Over the three games the team went 14-of-60 from the plate (.283) with a double each from Wyatt Dean, Jaxon Olive and Gavin Tinsley.

Olive was the team’s leading hitter, going 5-of-8 (.625) with two runs scored and a run batted in.

Indians turn sights on tough MacArthur bid

Sweeping the District 5A-1 field like it did a year ago to win the title will not happen again this season after El Reno High School’s football team dropped a 25-point game to Noble last week.

But there is little time to cry over spilled milk as the Indians are set to host Lawton MacArthur Friday night in their home opener.

“They are loaded and their front seven on defense, we could have a nightmare with them. Both of their lines are a year older and they have got a quarterback that is not a game-changer but is very consistent in taking care of the football.

Indians sweep Western Heights to set up possible leap-frog in standings

With the bats blazing, El Reno High School’s softball team set itself up for a possible two-spot leap-frog in the final District 5A-2 standings by sweeping a twinbill from Western Heights.

El Reno went into Monday’s road game at Bishop McGuinness needing to beat the Irish to force a three-way tie for third with Noble and Guymon – both at 8-6 in 5A-2 action.

Rebounding from an opening-game loss, El Reno High School’s volleyball team earned its second Suburban Conference win of the season with a 3-1 decision over the Noble Bears.

The 17-25/25-20/26-24/25-55 win moved the Indians, ranked 11th in Class 5A, to 2-1 in the conference and 13-10 on the season.

El Reno served at 88 percent on the night with 12 aces.

Avery Peffer led the way with four aces, followed by Madison Patswald with three, two each from Ariana Ortega and Bailey Denwalt and Bri Barksdale with one ace.

El Reno returns to gridiron action in loss

NOBLE – After a three week hiatus and two periods of near misses, El Reno High School's football team finally found its offensive groove in the second half of its District 5A-1 opener against Noble.

Unfortunately, so did the Bears.

Noble, holding a slim 7-0 halftime lead, outscored El Reno 39-21 over the final two periods en route to a 46-21 win.

The loss dropped El Reno to 0-2 on the season while Noble improved to 3-1. The game was the Indians first since August 27 due to a two-week COVID-19 lock down and a open week.

Rallying from behind in the first two games, El Reno High School’s volleyball team raced out to a 10-1 lead in the third game last week against Class 5A’s 16th-ranked Santa Fe South and then held on for a 3-0 win over the St. Bernards.

The 25-21/25-15/25-20 non-conference victory moved El Reno, ranked 11th in the same poll, to 13-9 on the season.

El Reno served at 90.4 percent with eight aces, six of those from Bailey Denwalt and one each by Avery Peffer and Ariana Ortega.
