El Reno drops close road bid to Wolves in Suburban action

A shot at a key road win slipped through the grasp of El Reno High School’s volleyball team last week as the Indians fell to Shawnee 3-2 in league play.

The 18-26/25-22/25-22/22-25/7-15 cliffhanger loss dropped El Reno to 6-6 on the season and 0-2 in the Suburban Conference standings.

El Reno served at 95 percent for the five-game thriller as Qyra Jones had a team-leading five ace serves. Savannah Robinson followed with four aces and Emma Patswald with two.

The net offense produced 31 kills but was plagued by 29 errors.

Indians drop 5A-2 game to ’Cats

Despite swinging the bats in step with that of league-leader Piedmont, El Reno High School’s fast-pitch softball team was unable to match the run production of the Wildcats.

El Reno was outhit by a close 8-7 margin, but managed less than a handful of runs in a 14-4 setback to the Wildcats.

The loss dropped El Reno to 4-6 on the season and 1-3 in the District 5A-2 standings and into fourth place by a half game over Guymon.

Redlands drops close match to Rich Mountain in home opener

Redlands Community College’s soccer team lost yet another close early-season match after a 2-1 setback to the University of Arkansas Rich Mountain in the Cougars 2022 home opener.

The loss dropped Redlands to 0-3 on the year and 0-1 in the NJCAA Region 2 standings. All three matches have been decided by five combined goals, two of those being one-goal losses.

Redlands was led in shots by Amya Lindsay, Riley Robertson and Gladis Avalos with three each. Moriah Reed and Delila Palmer had two shots each, followed by McKenzie Simon and Courtney Roe with one apiece.

El Reno struggles to stop Piedmont's flexbone offense in 42-8 loss

PIEDMONT – Russell Cook knew there was a chance his El Reno High School football team would struggle on defense against Piedmont's flexbone rushing attack.

Little did he expect the cross-county rivalry game would become a defensive nightmare.

Piedmont rushed for 387 yards and five touchdowns en route to a 42-8 win over the Indians. El Reno slipped to 0-2 on the season with the loss, while Piedmont improved to 1-1.

Indians drop two in Shawnee Festival as road woes remain

The road continues to be a hard opponent to overcome for El Reno High School’s fast-pitch softball team as the Indians went 1-2 in the recent Shawnee Festival.

El Reno slipped to 1-4 in road games and 5-5 on the season after losing to Deer Creek (15-1) and Claremore (4-3).

The victory in Shawnee was a 26-2 trouncing of Del City.

The Claremore loss came close to a win as El Reno left the tying run at third base in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Down by three, Kaydence Pawnee hit a lead-off double and scored on a two-bagger by Ryah Hardy.

Spikers run into ranked teams in Weatherford tourney, drop three bids

El Reno High School’s volleyball team, ranked 16th in Class 5A, ran into several ranked teams en route to a 1-3 record in the recent Weatherford Classic.

The Indians slipped to 6-5 on the season after losing to Class 3A’s 16th-ranked Southwest Covenant School (2-0) and sixth-ranked Corn Bible Academy (2-0) in pool play, followed by a 2-1 loss to Class 5A’s Elgin.

El Reno defeated Clinton in pool play by scores of 25-22/24-12.

Tigers snap out of slide; CHS drops close bid

After home setbacks to cross-county rival Calumet and Elmore City, Union City High School’s fast-pitch softball team snapped the two-game losing streak with two wins in the Covington-Douglas Festival.

The Tigers beat the host school 3-0 before posting a 12-0 shutout of Cherokee to improve to 11-8 on the season.

Union City went 14-of-57 (.246) from the plate in the three games after the loss to Calumet, getting doubles each from Emily Griggs and Oceanna Schranz.

Griggs (.375) led the team with three hits, a run and four runs batted in.

Calumet, UC win streaks come to end

A nine-game win streak to open the fall season came to a grinding halt as Calumet High School’s baseball team, ranked third in Class B, dropped a 5-4 game in extra innings to Amber-Pocasset.

Ampo, ranked No.8 in Class A, scored the winning run in the top of the ninth inning on a wild pitch.

Calumet logged nine hits in the loss as Carson Cooper went 3-for-4 with a run scored. Kyler Thiessen drove in a run and scored once off two base hits.

Hunter Arnold, Kaleb Thiessen, Caleb Meschberger and Kingston Arnold added a base hit each in the loss.
