When El Reno High School was first awarded hosting rights to the Oklahoma Powerlifting Coaches Association’s State Championships, it was a single-day, varsity-level meet.

Over the eight years since, the event has grown through ice and wind storms and a global pandemic to become a three-day event which benefits multiple school organizations as well as the City of El Reno.

Canadian County commissioners not only approved of the Children’s Justice Center holding a Family Fun Day, they added a bounce house and an obstacle course to help kids have fun.

At a recent meeting, commissioners agreed to rent the bounce house and obstacle course for the second annual Family Fun Festival.

The event is set for April 11 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at 7905 E. Highway 66. 

The Family Fun Day is free for the public, with the inflatables and obstacle course being only some of the activities planned for the day.

Statewide election activity officially begins at 8 a.m. Wednesday, April 1 when the candidate filing period opens. 

Candidates for county offices file with the secretary of the county election board. 

Candidates for state offices file with the secretary of the state election board.

The Canadian County Association for Oklahoma Home and Community Education (OHCE) is giving two $500 scholarships to students planning to attend a two- or four-year college or university.

Scholarships are available to any 2026 graduating senior or new G.E.D. certificate holder who resides in or goes to school in Canadian County and will be attending an institution of higher education full-time.

Recipients will be selected based on financial need, academic record and character recommendations.
