It’s official.

El Reno is the bona fide birthplace of the fried-onion hamburger.

The sign says so.

Last week, local fried-onion burger legends, along with those currently entrusted with the cuisine that made El Reno famous, gathered to dedicate a sign. The metal embossed structure rests inside the Mother Road Plaza at the corner of Wade and Choctaw.

It reads:

Otis Bruce and Robert Sanders join with Ed Graham (behind the sign), Marty Hall and Lacey Brickey

West: Lawmen need pay hike

Body

Canadian County Sheriff Chris West said he visited with the three county commissioners, one at a time, requesting them to pass a resolution increasing the sheriff’s base salary to the maximum of $74,500.

West said his justification being that the Oklahoma Legislature overwhelmingly approved and passed amendments to state statute authorizing the base salary range of Oklahoma sheriffs to be not less than $44,000 and no more than $74,500. Because West serves in a county with a larger population, his salary is $84,200.
