Body

While the goal of making the field for the NJCAA Region II, Division II Championships slipped its grasp, Redlands Community College’s baseball team closed the season as one of the hottest clubs in the league.

The Cougars won six of their final eight regular-season games including a series victory over Murray State College. Redlands defeated the Aggies 3-2, 7-5 and 10-3 after losing the opener 4-3.

Redlands’ 6-2 record over the final eight games tied for the second best mark with Southeast Arkansas in the 14-team Region II, Division II lineup.

Stonewall continues playoff streak over Union City

Body

Union City High School’s baseball team's lone win in a state tournament was a 5-4 decision over Stonewall in 2017.

Since then the Longhorns have had UCHS’ number, winning three out of the last five playoff meetings including last week’s two games to win the Class A-II, Region 8 Championships.

Stonewall, ranked No.8, advanced to the Elite Eight for the third time since that state loss to Union City.

The ninth-ranked Tigers spring season ended with a 26-9 record.
