Borrowing a page from the girls playbook, El Reno High School’s boys basketball team unleashed a full-court press on Western Heights last week which helped the Indians to their first win of the year against a Suburban Conference foe.

El Reno forced the Jets into 25 turnovers, 17 of those being steals, as the Indians rolled to a 78-33 victory. The win moved EHS, ranked No.13 in Class 5A, to 7-5 on the season.

Kale Simon’s team is now 1-3 against league teams but remains 0-1 in games which count in the Suburban Conference standings.

No fear of Heights

El Reno High School’s girls basketball team forced Western Heights into 22 turnovers over the first two periods which were directly linked to the Indians full-court pressure defense.

As it turned out, El Reno needed every one of those possessions to get its offense stuck off high center. However, once it did the Indians rolled to a 69-26 win over the Jets.

Planning meetings on El Reno’s future path set this week

Body

El Reno has already made it a few miles down the Route to the Future.

The creation of a comprehensive plan for the city’s next 20 years has been discussed frequently over the last several months by members of the Municipal Planning Commission and volunteer focus groups.

The latest effort to bring people and ideas together started last week. On Friday evening, local residents gathered at the El Reno Public Safety Center to voice their opinions and take a peek inside the city planning process.

‘Hey, Taxi’

It just got easier to get around El Reno or even to Oklahoma City.

At a city council meeting on Tuesday, a new taxi service business was approved for El Reno.

McGee TaxiCab will likely begin operation within a few days. The owner and sole cab driver, Georgia McGee, has been pushing this idea for a couple of weeks. She’s excited the road has been cleared for her.

“I just want to help my community,” McGee said. “There’s a big need for this service in El Reno.”
