Marty Hall said he got a call from the producers of Fox and Friends asking if they could report live from Sid’s Diner on Tuesday morning.

Hall said he asked why they chose the diner he founded and has operated for years with his family in downtown El Reno.

“They said they had researched us and believed Sid’s represented Oklahoma,” Hall said.

Good enough.

On Super Tuesday, a Fox reporter made himself at home inside the cozy diner at Choctaw and Wade.

John Garland Brooks

Garland Brooks went to his eternal rest on Feb. 28, 2020. He was born Dec. 3, 1926, near Calumet to Allean Beverly Barker and Charles Frank Brooks and lived his entire life in Canadian County. He enlisted in the United States Navy and served from 1944 to 1946, a World War II veteran, after graduating from El Reno High School in 1944.

His yearbook picture noted that he was known for his “smiling eyes.”

William E. “Bill” Hutson left us on Feb. 28, 2020, to watch over us from his new heavenly home. He was loved by all who were privileged to know him. A man of gentle strength and loving kindness, he served his Lord and Savior faithfully.

Margaret Newnum 

Body

Funeral services for former El Reno resident Margaret Ann Newnum will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Benson Memorial Chapel with Chaplain Stuart Malloy officiating. Burial will follow in the El Reno Cemetery under the direction of Huber-Benson Funeral Home. 

Margie passed away Feb. 27, 2020, at St. Anthony Hospital in Shawnee. She was born May 12, 1942, in San Antonio, Texas.

For the last 20 years she lived in Tecumseh and was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Shawnee. While living in El Reno she worked at the Little Giant Pump Company.
