Simon resigns

Body

After three seasons, the help-wanted sign is back out for the El Reno High School boys basketball program.

Kale Simon handed in his letter of resignation last week for his coaching duties only, and will stay on as assistant principal at Roblyer Learning Center, said El Reno Superintendent Craig McVay.

“His resignation will be voted on at the April school board meeting,” said McVay.

El Reno Athletic Director Rodney Haydon said Simon’s decision caught him off-guard. Simon was his top choice to replace him as the Indians coach at the end of the 2016-17 season.

In a radio interview, Brook Arbeitman, OSBI public information officer, said investigators were using 3-D cameras to process the scene.

Local students shine at Junior Livestock Show

Body

The 48th Annual Canadian County Junior Livestock Show brought young people from throughout Canadian County to the fairgrounds over the weekend.

Like previous years, it was a full house in the agriculture building. Hundreds of cattle, pigs, sheep and goats were packed both inside and outside the barn. Some of these creatures will eventually enter the food market. For now, they are the pride and joy of their young handlers.

Body

Walter L. Ross, 96 years young, was born in Chickasha, Okla., the third of seven children of Henry Ross and Marie Decker Ross. Friends and family called him Wege or Wegie. To his grandchildren he was Grandad or Grandad Boop. His greeting to them in infancy and childhood was a big smile and a tap of the forefinger, punctuated by the sound “boop” – the sign that they were special and dearly loved.
