On the road for the playoffs

El Reno High School’s boys soccer team played through the rain recently to defeat Guymon 2-1 in its final match of the regular season.

El Reno will now travel to Oklahoma City to play Santa Fe South in the first round of the Class 5A playoffs, set for Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Fort Cobb-Broxton downs Union City in D7 title shot

Union City High School’s slow-pitch softball team fell one win shy of advancing to the regional round, losing 7-2 to Fort Cobb-Broxton in the title game of the Class 2A, District 7 Championship.

The Tigers went 3-2 in the postseason to close out the season with a 21-14 record.

“Our girls put it all on the line. I’m sad the season ended but we left it all on the field,” said head coach Cody Schmidt.

While notching a thrilling win in the postseason, Calumet High School’s slow-pitch softball team had the daunting task of beating top-ranked Binger-Oney twice in order to advance.

The Bobcats had other plans.

Binger-Oney tagged Calumet’s defense for 32 runs en route to 15-0 and 17-1 wins to claim the Class 2A, District 1 Championship.

The Chieftains season ends with a 5-12 record, with Calumet earning a 6-5 playoff win over Sentinel.

Riverside thinclads medal at ORES state

Riverside Public Schools recently took part in the 2021 Oklahoma Rural Elementary Schools State Track meet at North Rock Creek in Shawnee.

Eight Riverside athletes competed in various events, bringing home three medals. Zaida Kraft took the silver in the 800-meter run with a time of two minutes and 48.46 seconds, while placing fourth in the mile with a time of 6:22.99.

Riverside’s 4x200 relay squad comprised of Brylee DuPris, Drew Kraft, Zaida Kraft and Nataly Arellano took third place with a time of 2:13.13.
