Chieftains set up for shot at prestigious Triple Crown

CALUMET – It’s known as the Triple Crown, and top-ranked Calumet is on the verge of joining an elite list of Class B schools to have won a fall and spring baseball championship as well as basketball all in the same academic year.

“Hopefully we can get it done,” said Calumet head baseball coach Cody Thiessen.

The Chieftains, who have the fall baseball and basketball titles under their belt, won the Region 1 crown to punch a ticket to the Elite Eight for the Class B Oklahoma State High School Spring Baseball Championships.

UNION CITY – While its offense made some noise, Union City High School’s pitching hushed any doubters as the fourth-ranked Tigers rolled to the Class A2, Region 4 Championships.

Union City defeated No.13 Cheyenne/Reydon twice (10-0-/12-2) and Ninnekah (12-0) to punch its ticket to the spring Class A2 Oklahoma State High School Baseball Championships for the first time since 2017.

Extra base hits lift foes past Indians in final regular-season games

Though the total run count was tied at 16-all, El Reno High School’s final three regular season opponents did what the Indians could not – get extra base hits.

El Reno was on the short end of an 8-2 count in extra base hits, while its defense committed eight errors en route to a 1-2 record against the trio.

The Indians defeated Lawton Eisenhower (15-1) to sweep the season series with the Eagles but lost to Noble (6-0) and Shawnee (9-1).

ER thinclads split up for Suburban bids

A young El Reno High School track team was split up for the 2026 Suburban Conference Track and Field Championships, with several athletes running in the freshman division.

El Reno’s varsity girls were led off the track by Mya Robles, who was runner-up in the discus with a toss of 92 feet and 5 inches. The senior was fourth in the shot put with a throw of 31-9.

On the track, Lilly Owen was fifth in the 800-meter run with a time of two minutes and 40.81 seconds. The junior was sixth in the 1,600-meter run at 6:04.77.
