OKLAHOMA CITY – More of Oklahoma’s retired teachers can return to the classroom following the signing of Senate Bill 267.
Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Education Chair and Education Committee Vice Chair, Sen. Dewayne Pemberton, R-Muskogee, is the author of the bill to remove the earnings cap for retired educators who choose to return to the profession.
A proposal by Transportation Commissioner T.W. Shannon to keep the Oklahoma Department of Transportation’s Eight-Year Work Plan intact was voted down by the Oklahoma Transportation Commission this week.
KWTV News 9’s Augusta McDonnell writes the vote took place after Transportation Secretary Tim Gatz explained why he pulled back on an interchange project with the Chickasaw Nation at I-35 and Highway 9.
The Chickasaw Nation, which operates a casino near the interchange, has offered to pay for $10 million of the $17 million proposed project.

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic and for the safety of students and all involved, the National Land and Range Judging Contest was canceled in 2020 and again this year.
The new terminal at El Reno Regional Airport will have to wait a bit longer after construction bids for the project came in well above the original plan.
Mayor Matt White said during last week’s El Reno Live program the project would need some “value engineering” after the bids came in well above the $1.5 million planned for the project. Much of the funding is expected to come from the Federal Aviation Administration and the Oklahoma Aeronautics Commission.
White said the terminal is expected to be revisited in the fall.
Lime scooters started popping up around downtown El Reno last week. The ridesharing scooters are part of a trial program approved recently by the El Reno City Council.
Riders access and pay to ride the scooters by using a mobile application.
El Reno will join the nation on Memorial Day, remembering those who gave their lives to ensure freedom lives on for those who call the United States of America home.
Mike Booher, commander of American Legion Post 34, said the preparation for the ceremony on Monday, May 31 will begin Saturday morning, May 29.

Construction crews began tearing up the road leading to the new Rock Island overpass last week as work continues to move closer to the summer completion date.
Motorists can expect more delays at the intersection of Elm Street and Rock Island as the eastbound lane on Elm Street has been narrowed to one lane near the construction area.

El Reno turned out big time Saturday for the Big Bulk Dump Day held near the Denny-Crump Rodeo Arena. Lines began forming early with vehicles filled with all kinds of debris and unwanted household items. By mid-afternoon the line of vehicle waiting to unload stretched onto Sunset Drive, as far east as Vicki’s Drive-Thru Convenience Store.
The city of El Reno partnered with the Oklahoma Environmental Management Authority to host the cleanup event.
