For more than two decades, El Reno Blessings Baskets Inc. has reached out to help those in the community most in need, whether it was with food assistance throughout the year or making sure youngsters have a toy to play with come Christmastime.

A special group of horseback riders will continue to “saddle up” thanks in part to the generosity of a Canadian County women’s philanthropic organization. Power of 100 Canadian County has selected Yukon’s Savannah Station therapeutic riding program as its quarterly Hope Award recipient.

Power of 100 members recently presented a huge gift – totaling $16,565 – to executive director Andi Holland, board chairman Tom Manske and volunteers at Savannah Station, 13420 Frisco Road.

Canadian County will pay off early a $3.5 million loan on the county Expo and Event Center construction project.

Commissioner Dave Anderson will notify BancFirst of the county’s intention to pay in full a series 2019 use tax revenue note that helped fund the new fairgrounds complex that opened in July 2021.

To finance construction of the facility on Jensen Road East, the county secured construction loans from BancFirst for $10 million in 2018 (at a 3.5 percent interest rate) and $3.5 million in 2019 (at a 3.85 percent interest rate).

The city of El Reno received a loan of $7.5 million from the Oklahoma Water Resources Board (OWRB) to make improvements to the municipal water system.

The funds will be used to renovate the existing water treatment plant and will include repair of the aerator tower, the installation of a raw water meter at the plant, a new claricone and repair of a recarbonation basin vault.

An inmate at the El Reno Federal Correctional Institution was being sought after he apparently walked away from the minimum security camp.

Prison officials said on Feb. 14, inmate Bryan Scott Miller was discovered missing from the camp adjacent to the FCI. It was about 9:30 p.m. when Miller was found to be missing.

Miller is a 36-year-old black male with black hair, brown eyes, 5-foot 1-inch tall and weighs approximately 165 pounds, officials reported.

A task force studying homelessness in Canadian County has invited the public to learn more about the problem and what may be done to address it.

The Canadian County Homeless Task Force is considering becoming an affiliate of the national movement Family Promise.

“We’ve been meeting for several months now trying to figure out how to deal with the issue,” said Canadian County Commissioner Jack Stewart, a task force member.

OKLAHOMA CITY – The full Senate has given unanimous approval to a bill to better protect victims of human trafficking and child abduction.

Senate Bill 1569, by Sen. Darrell Weaver, creates the “Address Confidentiality for Child Survivors and Their Families Act.”

Oklahoma’s Address Confidentiality Program (ACP), administered by the state attorney general’s office, provides victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking with a substitute address that can be used when interacting with state and local government agencies.

The El Reno Fire Department responded to a trailer fire Saturday at the El Reno Village Mobile Home Park, 1501 S. Rock Island Avenue.

Chief Jason Duff said the blaze was reported at 5:55 p.m. His department responded with two engines and its mobile command unit and had the blaze under control within 30 minutes. Thick black smoke from the fire could be seen for miles.

Firefighters used thermal imagery to detect hot spots inside the trailer which was fully engulfed upon arrival.
