The Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence has announced the winners of its 2022 Oklahoma Medal for Excellence Awards honoring outstanding educators in Oklahoma’s public schools.
The awards will be presented at the foundation’s 36th Academic Awards Celebration on May 21 at the Omni Oklahoma City Hotel. Each of the five winners will receive a $5,000 cash prize.
Fresh Anointing Church will hold an Indian Taco fundraiser in the United Foods parking lot located at 210 West Elm St.
Everyone is invited to come out this Saturday, March 5 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Reaching the final sale was one of the goals at the 50th Annual Canadian County Junior Livestock Show.
A former project manager at El Reno’s wastewater treatment plant has been sentenced to two years of federal probation and a $10,000 fine after pleading guilty to violating the Clean Water Act.
U.S. District Judge Charles Goodwin rendered the sentence against Kenneth Fulton, now of Bartlesville, Feb. 22 in a case that was filed in March 2021 in the Western District of Oklahoma.
The maximum sentence Goodwin could have assessed against Fulton was up to two years in prison, a year of supervised release and a fine of $250,000.
United Way of Canadian County wrapped up its 2021 campaign and raised a total of $190,272 to be invested on behalf of donors to help meet the community’s health and human service needs.
“During a challenging campaign year, we are humbled to have received such remarkable community support,” said Jan Foreman, United Way of Canadian County 2021 Advisory Board president.
“We are thankful for the generosity of our donors who are helping us to ensure that our Partner Agencies can continue to give the gift of life to thousands of Canadian County residents in need.”
From concurrent enrollment classes and Oklahoma’s Promise to the enhancement of STEM degree programs, Redlands Community College students see and appreciate the value of Oklahoma’s investment in higher education.
Several of these students recently traveled to the state Capitol for Higher Education Day to meet with legislators and advocate for continued legislative support for Oklahoma’s colleges and universities.
Oklahoma school libraries would be required to purchase “age-appropriate” materials as determined by local communities, rather than relying on standards set by national organizations, under legislation that has received committee approval.
In the Yukon and El Reno public school districts alone, some 200 children have been identified as being homeless.
This number does not include children or family members who are too frightened to speak up about their homeless situations.
These children and families may be finding shelter anywhere. In Canadian County, a large number of homeless families are comprised of single mothers with one or more children.
OKLAHOMA CITY – Rep. Jay Steagall, R-Yukon, and Sen. J.J. Dossett, D-Owasso, House and Senate Chairs of the Oklahoma Legislative Veterans Caucus, said they applauded the Oklahoma Department of Veterans Affairs (ODVA), as well as numerous veteran service organizations, who worked to make Oklahoma number one among the 50 states for veterans, per capita, in receipt of federal, service-connected disability benefits.
“Oftentimes disabled veterans either don’t know what resources are available to them or choose not to ask for help,” Steagall said.
