The Canadian County Historical Museum has launched a $20,000 fundraising campaign to rebuild the roof over the front porch of the 1892 Hotel El Reno - one of the county’s most significant surviving links to early Oklahoma history.

Originally built in downtown El Reno, the hotel welcomed travelers for decades and became a familiar landmark when Route 66 was designated in 1926. In 1984, facing demolition, the structure was relocated to the Canadian County Museum complex, where it was restored to reflect its original layout. Today, each room inside the hotel features curated artifacts that illuminate the stories, people and industries that shaped Canadian County.

“This hotel is a historic structure from El Reno’s earliest years,” museum officials said in an email. “Every repair we make protects not just a building, but the stories and artifacts inside it. We’re asking residents, businesses and history supporters to help us keep this landmark standing.”

Donations to the restoration project may be made directly to the Canadian County Historical Museum. All funds raised will support preservation efforts on the hotel.
