El Reno seniors picked for OCCF scholarships

The Oklahoma City Community Foundation has selected three El Reno High School seniors to receive $3,000 scholarships for the 2022-2023 academic year through the Community Foundation’s Community Foundation Scholars Program. 

Those three seniors are Kaitlyn Awbrey, Jovanna Espinoza and Olivia Walters-Hunt.

The Community Foundation Scholars Program is one of hundreds of scholarship opportunities at the Oklahoma City Community Foundation that benefit more than 800 students with a total of $2.8 million every year.

Broyles among those earning internships

Nine Southwestern Oklahoma State University students have been awarded internships for summer 2022 from the NASA Oklahoma Space Grant Program.

According to Madeline Baugher, SWOSU’s program coordinator for the NASA Oklahoma Space Grant, the nine students were selected by faculty in computer science and engineering technology and will work at NASA, two Oklahoma companies and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

El Reno grad, Distinguished Alumni earns Boren Award

The University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center recently conducted Faculty Senate Awards, recognizing Dr. Ken Randall as recipient of the David L. Boren Professorship Award.

This is one of the University of Oklahoma’s highest honors, recognizing faculty who have made truly exceptional contributions to the mission of a public research university.

To qualify for the Professorship, a faculty member must have consistently demonstrated outstanding teaching, research and creative activity and leadership in professional and public service.

CV Art Guild hosts

Canadian Valley Art Guild will host award-winning artist Dorothy Woolbright during a demonstration set for Thursday, May 12 beginning at 7 p.m. at Yukon’s First United Methodist Church.

Woolbright will be conducting an alla prima demonstration in oil.

She has been featured in several issues of Southwest Art Magazine and currently her oil paintings are represented at Howell Gallery of Fine Art in Oklahoma City.

Canadian County couple to celebrate 70 years

Body

J.C. and Vonda Carroll will be honored on their 70th wedding anniversary with a family dinner at a local restaurant on Saturday with their daughter, Jana Wilds serving as hostess.

The couple was married May 2, 1952, at Wickline Methodist Church in Midwest City. J.C. is the son of the late Joe and Ethel Carroll, and Vonda is the daughter of the late Chet and Edith Sanders.
