Okarche Speech Team recently took part in Southwest Regional Competition in Weatherford. The team, coached by T.J. Harris, placed second in 3A sweepstakes and is headed to state April 12 at Tulsa University.

The Okarche team took 12 of its members to this competition and won many placements in individual events.

Senior Zoe Palmer placed first in Poetry and Dramatic Interpretation. Senior Jaylan Candy-Fire placed second in Original Oratory.

Okarche High School March Students of the Month are Hunter Mueggenborg, Ally Baustert, Asher Schieber, Arron Osborn, Canon Rother and Jag Mueggenborg.

Okarche High School March Lion and Lioness honorees are juniors Jett Mueggenborg and Kate Baustert.

El Reno High School March Students of the Month are George Stewart, Sabrina Keel, William Wedman, Evalynn Blood, James Thompson, Shalyn Mutzig, Jayden Fudge and Bailey Schmidt.

The Riverside March Citizens of the Month are Iris Smith, Keira Noear, Lathen Childers, Auttum McLearen, Samuel Powell, Braxton Camp and Aldo Saldana.

Also, Jaxton Proctor, Whitney Sneed, Azayla Mitchell, Sophia Lemus, Phoenix Wyrick, Lily Smith, Samir Baker and CJ Mendivil Jr.

What’s in a name?

It was summertime in the early 1990s and Daniel Hobson, my nephew, was probably 5 or 6 years old. 

His favorite movie was Sandlot. And I don’t mean it was his favorite movie, it was the only movie he ever watched. Over and over and over again.

Lamplighters OHCE of Canadian County met recently at Mount Zion Global Methodist Church. Carol Stine called the meeting to order, while Patricia Morrison read a devotional from Jesus Calling.

Maxine Little read minutes from the last meeting, with Morrison giving the treasury report. Morrison was birthday honoree.

It was noted that Stine and Donna Wehmuller attended the recent executive meeting. 

Canadian County commissioners will declare the week of May 5 OHCE Week.
