Riverside Public Schools recently took part in the 2021 Oklahoma Rural Elementary Schools State Track meet at North Rock Creek in Shawnee.

Eight Riverside athletes competed in various events, bringing home three medals. Zaida Kraft took the silver in the 800-meter run with a time of two minutes and 48.46 seconds, while placing fourth in the mile with a time of 6:22.99.

Riverside’s 4x200 relay squad comprised of Brylee DuPris, Drew Kraft, Zaida Kraft and Nataly Arellano took third place with a time of 2:13.13.

Offense played center stage for both teams recently as Redlands Community College’s baseball team split a four-game series against National Parks College based out of Hot Springs, Ark.

The teams combined for 105 runs, with Redlands winning the first two games of the series by scores of 6-1 and 10-9.

The Nighthawks rallied to win both games on day two by scores of 21-12 and 28-18.

The split left Redlands with a 12-21 record for the spring and a 5-15 mark and eighth place in the NJCAA Region 2, Division 2 standings.

After dropping an overtime match by one goal in their first meeting, Redlands Community College’s soccer team was looking for some revenge last week against Eastern Oklahoma State College.

Despite matching their season-high goal total, the Cougars could not find such satisfaction, suffering a 4-2 loss to the Mountaineers at Memorial Stadium.

The setback extends Redlands losing streak to eight matches.

The Cougars slipped to 1-9 on the season and in the NJCAA Region 2 standings.

El Reno became an official Purple Heart City last week after a ceremony at VFW Post 382 recognized close to two dozen Americans who were awarded the military honor after being wounded while serving this nation.

Canadian County has Oklahoma’s fourth Family Justice Center supporting victims impacted by domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking and child abuse.

OKLAHOMA CITY – A measure to better protect victims of domestic violence from harassment through social media was approved last week in the Senate. Sen. Jessica Garvin, R-Duncan, is the principal Senate author of the measure and said House Bill 1007 is needed to bring victim protection laws in line with new technologies and communication platforms.

“Sadly, domestic violence is all too common in our state, and those who prey on others will use whatever means they can to break down their victims — be it physical, emotional or mental,” Garvin said.
