El Reno Wranglers discuss upcoming rodeo, horse show

The El Reno Wranglers held their monthly meeting recently at the 4-H building.

Jimmy Johnston led in the flag salute, while Gary Sorrells offered prayer before the potluck dinner.

June events included a trail ride at Gary and Linda Bunn’s as well as the Chickasha parade.

There was discussion of the upcoming annual rodeo that will be held at the new fairgrounds Aug. 27, followed by the Canadian County Horse Show Aug. 28.

Next Wranglers meeting will be held July 8.

UCO releases spring honor rolls

The University of Central Oklahoma recently announced a list of students named to the university’s honor rolls for the spring 2021 semester.

Students recognized on the President’s Honor Roll recorded a straight-A or 4.0 GPA, with those named to the Dean’s Honor Roll achieving a 3.5 GPA or better for the semester and no grade lower than a B.

Cash Flow and Forage meeting set for July 14

The Canadian OSU Cooperative Extension Center will host a Cash Flow and Forage insurance meeting July 14 from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Canadian Valley Technology Center, Rooms 2A-2B.

JJ Jones, district OSU economist, will be the guest speaker.

LRP and PRF are both subsidized insurance products sold by private insurance agents similar to traditional crop insurance. Both programs are easily adapted to beef cattle producers of all sizes in Oklahoma.

Fastest to the finish

While certain aspects of the timed events found on the national series has crept into the format of the Smoke on the Water Drag Boat Races, fans can rest assured the event will not forget its roots.

“We will always be the fastest to the finish, Outlaw-style racing. There will be no index racing at Smoke on the Water. Run what you bring and it’s always fastest to the finish,” said event co-organizer Josh Finnigan.

Outlaws ride roughshod over expansion jinx

In its first year of existence, the Enid Outlaws (24-2), owned and operated by El Reno’s Jonathan Reed, have reached the Central Conference Championships of the 2021 The Basketball League playoffs.

The Outlaws, winners of TBL’s Central League’s regular season title with a 22-2 record, went into weekend action at the Stride Bank Center in Enid needing to win two games against the Houston Push.

Houston won the first game of the series 118-98.

Volunteers, youth sought for Oklahoma Youth Hunting Program

Our friends with the Oklahoma Youth Hunting Program (OYHP) pair experienced hunters with youth who have never been hunting and their parents for a weekend of deer hunting memories during Oklahoma’s youth deer gun season.

The program relies on volunteer guides, cooks, drivers and other experienced helpers to pull off this incredible event.
