Calumet wins district title; UC bows out of playoffs
Calumet High School’s baseball team, ranked 17th in the state, drew the second seed for the Class A, Region 5 Championships but will have to get past fifth-ranked and host Dewar to make state.
The Chieftains, now 21-3 on the year, defeated Mountain View-Gotebo 19-1 in a tuneup game. Calumet takes an 11-game win streak into regionals after snatching the District 19 Championship with two victories over Wellston (12-0/18-3) and a third over Waukomis (18-5).
Tyler Tignor’s team was set to face Elmore City/Pernell in the first round of regionals.
