El Reno man killed in motorcycle crash

An El Reno man was killed Tuesday when the motorcycle he was driving collided with a vehicle.

Major Kirk Dickerson with El Reno police said 37-year-old Bradley Keith Joseph suffered fatal injuries in the collision that happened at SH 66 and South Radio Road.

Fresh Anointing Church to hold end-of-school party

Fresh Anointing Church will host an end-of-school party May 21 at Legion Park. The event will be held from noon to 4 p.m. and is for students pre-kindergarten through 12th grade.

The party is open to the public.

Cinco de Mayo event aims to support domestic violence victims

It’s a chance to celebrate Cinco de Mayo and benefit a great cause at the same time, organizers say – and they hope more people will sign up to join the fun.

That cause is Intervention and Crisis Advocacy Network – or ICAN – and the celebration is the agency’s Cinco De Mayo event, scheduled from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. May 5.

“There are so many worthwhile events that are happening this time of year,” ICAN Executive Director Matt Whetzel said.

Sheriff’s office employee retiring after short, impactful career

A longtime Canadian County Sheriff’s Office employee is retiring, and while he might not have the most years in service at the department, his story is one of miracles and devotion.

Bob Stuart began his career with CCSO in February 2010 when then-Sheriff Randall Edwards hired him to serve as the county jail administrator.

It was a role he was “supremely” suited for, said Canadian County Commissioner Jack Stewart.

Scanning for the contract

Four vendors are seeking a contract with the Canadian County Sheriff’s Office to provide a full body scanner at the county jail. In a first for Canadian County, two of those companies submitted their bids online.

To help keep inmates from bringing drugs and weapons into the county jail, Undersheriff Kevin Ward said the sheriff’s office will install a full body scanner in the jail’s receiving area.

The four bids ranged from $105,000 to $147,000.

Extension office to host Wheat Field Day May 17

Canadian County OSU Extension Center will host El Reno Wheat Field Day May 17.

The day is to help inform regional wheat farmers about the popular wheat varieties being grown in the central region of Oklahoma.

The field day will highlight popular varieties and a few varieties currently being researched that have not been released to growers and are currently still being tested.

Dr. Amanda Silva, OSU wheat specialist, will discuss the characteristics of each of the varieties that are in the test plots.
