Late-game scoring woes handcuff rally by Cougars

A late-game shooting slump forced Redlands Community College women’s basketball team into the loss column for a third straight outing after dropping a 62-54 home bid to Western Oklahoma.

The eight-point setback dropped the Cougars to 15-4 on the season. Redlands remains in the fourth spot in the NJCAA Region 2 standings at 2-3.

Down by 10 points in the third period, Redlands rallied to within a point, 52-51, on a Myracle Washington free-throw line jumper with just over five minutes to play.

ODOT crews prepare statewide ahead of forecasted winter storm

ODOT is actively preparing for a winter storm expected to impact the state beginning Friday. Because each storm is different and much of the winter weather in the state can quickly shift between ice, sleet or snow, ODOT proactively monitors weather conditions closely to determine the best plan of action for each storm. Pre-treatment operations are already underway to help improve safety on highways and interstates. Crews will continue to monitor conditions ahead of the expected inclement weather.

Airport getting new look with hangar, terminal

A new multi-unit hangar will be going up at El Reno Regional Airport after the city council signed off on a plan to fund the project. 

El Reno accepted a grant from the Oklahoma Department of Aerospace and Aeronautics for more than $1.2 million to help construct the hangar.

The grant provides 40 percent of the funding for the project, with the city kicking in 60 percent or $1.8 million. The grant will help cover the construction and all professional services associated with the project, information provided by the city said.

Response filed in El Reno’s Supreme Court annex appeal

OKLAHOMA CITY - A response has been filed at the Oklahoma Supreme Court to El Reno’s appeal in a land annexation case.

Attorney Austin L. Hamm of Box Law Group signed the Jan. 9 Response to Petition in Error asking justices to sustain a Canadian County District Court ruling invalidating most of the annexation.

Attorneys David M. Box, Cooper T. Hahn and Hamm represent the appellees, a group of 23 individual landowners and the Oklahoma Farm Bureau.

TSET allocates money to increase doctor residencies, cancer treatment access

OKLAHOMA CITY — The Tobacco Settlement Endowment Trust announced millions in grants Wednesday to expand patient access to trained doctors and cancer treatments.  

The University of Oklahoma Health Sciences regents and the Oklahoma State University Medical Center were the largest recipients, being awarded $25 million and $30 million respectively, receiving over 36 percent of all funding awarded.
