Enjoy the perfect Christmas Trifecta: Sparkles, Sweets and Shopping this Thursday, Dec. 8 from 5:30 to 9 p.m.
Patrons can enjoy home tours (Sparkles), desserts (Sweets), and after-hours discounts at several downtown businesses (Shopping).  
The event, hosted by Wesley in ACTSion, provides guests a fun evening. Home Tour tickets also include dessert, homemade by members of Wesley United Methodist Church, and available for pickup after touring the Wesley sanctuary and Hall of Trees.

El Reno girls score game’s opening 23 points, steamroll the Eagles in home bid 61-19

Scoring the first 23 points of the  game, El Reno High School’s girls basketball team opened up its 2022-23 home slate with an impressive 61-19  win over Lawton Eisenhower.
El Reno, now 2-0 on the season, dominated on both ends of the floor after holding the Eagles to 10 first-half points and blanking the Eagles offense in the first period.
The Indians led 18-0 after one period as five players contributed to the effort. Lilly Thomas and Nazhoni Sleeper scored six points each, while Emmary Elizondo, Pauline Black-Harmon and Bryhanna Blackowl scored a basket each.

Knocking down six 3-pointers in the first period,  El Reno High School’s boys basketball team posted a 78-43 wire-to-wire victory over Lawton Eisenhower last week in its 2022-23 home opener.
El Reno improved to 2-0 on the season after scoring the first 16 points of the contest, four of those coming off a technical foul against Ike. Carter Roman Nose made one of the two free throws, then buried a corner 3-pointer off the inbound play.

Section of Northwest Expressway dedicated in memory of fallen sheriff's deputy Lanning

A section of Northwest Expressway was dedicated in memory of Canadian County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Shirley Lanning. Lt. Lanning was killed in a vehicle collision on Feb. 14, 2020, while on duty.

State Rep. Preston Stinson carried a bill in the state Legislature this past session to dedicate the section of State Highway 3 (Northwest Expressway) from Morgan Road to Sara Road as the Lt. Shirley Lanning Memorial Highway.

El Reno High School senior Ryan Sigler points to “Paula the Pin Pony,” the wrestling team's mascot for the season.  After every fall recorded, the wrestler getting the pin has to ride Paula off the mat. The mascot is a way to keep wrestlers and fans engaged in the dual according to head coach Tyrone Lewis. El Reno, ranked sixth in Class 5A, took a 2-0 record into Tuesday's match with cross-county rival Piedmont.

It’s the holiday season

El Reno officially kicked off the holiday season over the weekend with a full day of activities, starting with the annual Christmas parade and ending with the tree-lighting ceremony at Petree Plaza. There was singing, dancing, food trucks, concession tents and visits from the Grinch, Oklahoma City Thunder mascot Rumble the Bison and
of course Santa and Mrs. Claus who were also in the parade.

Redhawk engaged as project leader for jail renovation

Although cost estimates still must be developed, Canadian County commissioners have agreed to use a construction manager to oversee a possible historic jail preservation project.

Commissioners voted 3-0 to engage Erick Westfahl of Redhawk Construction to provide construction management services. Proposed fee is 7 percent of the project cost.

Yukon’s Westfahl presented to commissioners a structural condition report for the old Canadian County Jail, which has fallen into disrepair. The written report was provided by SAI Engineering.

It was an emotional evening as the El Reno Public Schools Foundation paid tribute to the 2022 Class of Distinguished Alumni, as well as a longtime music teacher who earned a Lifetime Achievement Award.

The banquet, which was originated by EHS in 1993, was held at the Canadian Valley Technology Center. It drew a crowd of education supporters, family and friends of the four individuals being honored.
