City boosts Burger Day funds, gives Temple time

The 38th Annual Burger Day will get a boost from the City of El Reno and the owner of an historic building in the downtown that’s in need of repair will get a few more months to continue showing progress.

City council members voted to boost funding for the Burger Day event from the $10,000 last year to $15,000 for this year’s festival set for May 2.

Casey Trejo, board president of the newly-formed Historic Downtown El Reno Foundation, requested the boost in city support. The foundation replaces the former Main Street program and is a nonprofit entity.

Small first painted the mural in 2009 and says he’s been using special techniques and materials to keep water from getting behind the mural.

The makeover is part of the city’s efforts to get ready for the 100-year birthday celebration for the Mother Road.
