El Reno High School’s baseball team lost the consolation finals at the 2023 89ers Classic in Guthrie by way of a 4-1 loss to Perkins-Tryon, but the big story came a day earlier.

Sophomore pitcher Gavin Tinsley threw his first-ever perfect game in the Indians 8-0 shutout win over Kingfisher.

It was El Reno’s second win of the year over the Yellowjackets.

“I was extremely excited and proud of him. Gavin pitched with conviction and commanded all three pitches and was dialed in from the first pitch to the last,” said El Reno head coach Keith Hill.

Guymon dampens ER playoff hopes

Body

El Reno High School’s girls soccer team had its two-match win streak snapped last week as playoff hopes took a serious, if not fatal, setback with a 5-0 shutout loss to Guymon.

It was El Reno’s fourth shutout loss in league play as the Indians slipped to 5-6 on the season. The loss dropped EHS to sixth in the district standings at 2-4.

Guymon led 2-0 at the half after squeezing two of its seven shots off the hands of El Reno keeper Bri Vickers.
