Chadwicks renew vows on 50th year

Kendall and Karen (Heldenbrand) Chadwick celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a vow renewal ceremony at the Elks Lodge, with Karen’s sister, Robin Robinson officiating.

A dinner and dance followed.

The traditional gold was used in the décor with vases of daisies that were in the original ceremony.

Many old friends, family and members of the original wedding party attended.

Karen and Kendall were married July 12, 1974, at the old First Baptist Church of El Reno.

El Reno Masonic Lodge makes a contribution to the El Reno Fire Department Fire Pup Program and the Police Department Child ID/Safety Program.

Worshipful Master Trevor Collier presents checks to ERFD Deputy Chief Mike Lloyd and Assistant Police Chief Kirk Dickerson.

El Reno Masons plan to donate $20,000 in community needs in 2024.

Finnigan family holds reunion

Descendants of Elmo and Agnes Finnigan held their annual reunion recently at Roman Nose State Park. Attending were their children, Tim and Danella Finnigan, Pat and Cheryl Finnigan, Willie and Kathleen Finnigan Baeriswyl, Peggy Finnigan Wahweah, Terry and Lorie Finnigan and Jimmy and Sheila Finnigan Cowan.

Riders from American Legion Riders Post 1340 as well as State Commander Brett Martin recently visited American Legion Post 34 in El Reno.

Post 34 provided coffee and doughnuts for all riders.

Lamplighters OHCE gather at Mount Zion for meeting

Lamplighters OHCE of Canadian County met recently at Mount Zion Global Methodist Church, with Carol Stine calling the meeting to order. Jan Maddox offered a devotional on “Trust.” Maxine Little read minutes from the previous meeting, while Patricia Morrison gave the treasury report.

Ann Niemann will direct the plans for the club’s education display at the Canadian County Fair. She will be assisted by Donna Wehmuller.

Maddox presented the leader lesson on “Cooking and Crafting for the Holidays.”

Smoke on the Water staff reviews safety procedures

A fatality wreck during a recent event in Texas has organizers of this weekend’s Smoke on the Water Drag Boat Races reviewing their safety measures.

“It makes you take a step back and evaluate things. It was a shock that rattles you to your core. We are aware, concerned and cautious moving forward. It’s (safety) something we don't take lightly,” said co-organizer Josh Finnigan.

During the Duel on the Brazos in Waco, Texas, the third stop of the Southern Drag Boat Association (SDBA) yearly racing circuit, Frank Carter’s boat began to flip.

Smooth sailing during early days for skipper

Under the circumstances which led to her hiring as El Reno High School’s softball coach, Bri Michalicka was expecting to encounter some rocky situations during her first two months on the job.

Former head coach Jason Little resigned in March under a cloud of controversy after one season.

Michalicka was hired in early May, having no head coaching experience on the high school level and just one season under her belt as Little’s assistant.
