Okarche FCCLA participated in district competition recently at Enid High School. Chesney Black won third place in Job Interview, while Belle Beam took first place in Cake Decorating and Addison Mingus won first place in Children’s Literature.

All three will advance on to regional competition.

Julia Rayburn, Sandra Woodland and Taylor Horn participated in a team event called Recycle and Redesign, bringing home second-place awards.

Canadian Valley Technology Center will host FCCLA regionals Jan. 30.

Okarche FCCLA assisted again this year to collect food for the Community Food Drive, placing boxes in the elementary school and high school.

The classes that brought the most food won a pizza party. The second grade brought the most food from the elementary, while the ninth grade brought the most food from the high school.

FCCLA checks expiration dates and organizes the collection, then takes the food to Light Your World Church and drops it off at the food pantry to be given to those in need during the holidays.

CALUMET – A guard-heavy lineup scored the first 13 points as Calumet High School’s boys basketball team extended its regular-season win streak with a 57-40 win over Lomega in its home opener.

The Chieftains moved to 3-0 on the season with the non-conference victory.

Calumet has now won 28 straight regular-season games dating back to last season, with the 57 scored against Lomega being the third lowest scoring output among those wins.

CALUMET – Double-digit turnovers in the second half, caused by a pressure defense by Lomega, haunted Calumet High School’s girls basketball team in a 78-29 loss to the Raiders.

The non-conference loss dropped Calumet to 0-3 on the season.

Calumet’s offense was held to single digits in all four periods as the Chieftains trailed 20-7 after one period and 40-13 at the break. The Raiders pressure defense stepped up in the third, leading to a 30-7 scoring edge and a 70-20 lead.

Lomega was outscored 9-8 over the final eight minutes of the 49-point win.

Thirteen players scored, including four in double digits, as Redlands Community College women’s basketball team jumped back into the win column with a 94-44 victory over Southern Nazarene University’s junior varsity.

The win snapped a two-game slide as the Cougars dropped road games in Kansas to Barton (76-60) and top-ranked Hutchison (81-59) community colleges. Redlands is now 4-2 on the season after the win over the Crimson Storm.

After having a three-game win streak snapped with a road loss, Redlands Community College men’s basketball team jumped back into the win column with a 106-55 score over On-Point Academy.

The victory over the cross-town rival moved the Cougars to 6-2 on the season following a 94-87 loss to Hesston College.

Camren Hunt scored 20 points in the win over On-Point and booked 26 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals for the two-game set. Henry Sanchez added a line of 22 points, 12 boards and five steals.

The need for Mobile Meals has reached an all-time high of 200 recipients per day. At the same time, volunteer and financial support have declined, leaving the 48-year organization in a difficult place, supporters said. 

Monday through Friday, El Reno Mobile Meals provides a prepared lunch to those who, for whatever reason, are unable to cook for themselves.

Receiving Mobile Meals is not dependent on age or financial status. By providing lunch to those in need, recipients are able to stay in their homes longer and maintain greater independence. 

We received an email a few weeks ago from a Mr. Andrew LeVan Allgood, he goes by Ace.

He said he would be coming through El Reno on his way to Los Angeles in an old 1934 Ford Cabriolet, in honor of what would have been his grandparents’ 90th wedding anniversary.
