RCC women climb Region 2 standings with winning streak

Winning four of its last five outings, including two in a row, has vaulted the Redlands Community College women’s basketball team up two spots in the conference standings.

The Cougars defeated Eastern Oklahoma State College (58-38) and Western Oklahoma State College (64-58) to improve to 13-9 on the season.

Redlands moved up two spots in the NJCAA Region 2 standings to fourth with a 6-5 record.

Splitting a pair of conference games has left the Redlands Community College men’s basketball team alone in fifth place in the NJCAA Region 2 standings.

The Cougars defeated Eastern Oklahoma State College (67-61) at home before losing a road game at Western Oklahoma State College (76-72). The split left the Cougars with an 18-7 overall record and a 6-5 Region 2 mark.

Savon Myers led all Redlands scorers with 25 points, 11 assists, four rebounds and two steals. Glenn Bishop Jr. was close behind with 24 points, five boards and two steals.

RCC Career Fair moved due to weather

Redlands Community College’s College and Career Fair has been moved to Feb. 26 after the original date collided with below freezing temperatures. 

Originally scheduled for Feb. 12, RCC's College and Career Fair has been moved to Wednesday, Feb. 26 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Redlands Austin Family Conference Center.

Open to both students and the general public, this event is designed to help students explore their future academic and career pathways.

Two felons sentenced to prison for assault on detention officers

Two repeat felons have been sentenced to prison for attacking detention officers last summer at the Canadian County Jail.

Yukon’s Angelo Allen Wythe, age 24, was convicted Feb. 5 in Canadian County District Court after pleading guilty to three felony counts of assault and battery on a police officer.

Wythe was sentenced to serve 12 years in state prison after a plea agreement was accepted by Special Judge David Halley.

The defendant appeared by video from the Canadian County Jail with his attorney, Landen Logan for the sentencing hearing.

The noon sun beats down on Kendall Christensen as she crouches in a field outside Stillwater to look at the grass around her feet. Tufts of big bluestem, little bluestem, switchgrass and Indiangrass blanket the ground.

“This was previously farmed and then converted back to native range,” she said. “We wanted to see if there were any issues with the fertility on the land from farming and if there was anything we could do to increase fertility and production on the land.”
