The 28th Annual Taste of Sacred Heart event raised close to $150,000 for the El Reno Catholic elementary school.
Ken Reding served as auctioneer for the event.
Holly Eaton, school office coordinator, said the final total was just over $149,000, making it one of the largest events ever for the school that reopened in the early 1990s after being closed for 30-plus years.
El Reno's second Braum’s opened this week.
The new store at 3113 Territory Lane is just over 6,000 square feet, featuring a large fresh market area, seating for around 80 and double drive-thru lanes. Store hours will be 6 a.m. to 10:45 p.m. daily. It also has parking for large trucks and trailers.
“El Reno is an amazing community, and a second location here allows us to continue to serve customers and provide quality products and service,” said Drew Braum, president and CEO.
“All of the support we received has been exceptional.”
Local Christian romance author Regina Jennings will be at a book signing tea at Chisholm Trail Presbyterian Church, 801 W. Vandament Avenue, Yukon, on March 22 from 1 to 3 p.m.
This book signing event is open to the public for a donation which will go toward helping fund the renovation of the chapel at Historic Fort Reno, built by World War II Prisoners of War. Light refreshments will be served.
Although the item wasn’t on the agenda, an outdoor music venue on the west side of Yukon became the focus of last week's Yukon Planning Commission meeting.
Homeowners in the Frisco Ridge, Westport 66, Westport and Stone Creek additions crowded into the Centennial Building to voice their opinions about Venu Holding Corporation’s proposed 12,500-seat amphitheater west of Frisco Road near the interchange on the north side of Interstate 40.
Venu now has an amphitheater in Colorado Springs, Colo., with plans for another in Broken Arrow.
Canadian County commissioners are promoting the timely purchase of flood insurance by property owners – particularly those within the floodplain – in advance of typical spring flooding season.
The three-member board accepted a resolution proclaiming March as “Flood Insurance Awareness Month” across Canadian County.
“We’re getting into the rainy season,” said CommissionerTom Manske. “I hope we get good rains.”

Club members discussed upcoming parades and play days as well as the annual rodeo set for Sept. 12 and 13 at the Denny-Crump Rodeo Arena.
Next El Reno Wranglers meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. April 3 at the 4-H building.
Quinton Evans-Blurton of El Reno caught a big fish at a local farm pond during spring break.
He is 11 years old and in the fifth grade at Darlington.
