Finishing as the highest-placing two-year program in the field, Redlands Community College women’s golf team kicked off the 2025 portion of its schedule with a top five effort.
Playing in the Oklahoma Women’s Intercollegiate at Lawton Country Club, Redlands was fourth with a 36-hole total of 616 (314/302).
Ivanna Gerez paced the Cougars with a 147 tally (74/73) to place third – three strokes off the winning mark.
Running against a mix of two- and four-year programs, Redlands Community College men’s cross country team placed 23rd in the recent 2025 Southern Stampede.
Running the 8-kilometer course at Missouri Southern State University in Joplin, Redlands posted a total time of two hours and 33.21 minutes and racked up 690 points. The average team time was 30:40.
Freshman Andres Mandujano broke his own program record by 16 seconds with a time of 26:51 to place 102nd. Four other runners set personal time records in the 268-runner field as Joseph Thompson (30:21) placed 224th.
Last week, the City of El Reno dedicated and renamed the education pavilion at Lake El Reno for Rev. O.P. Light.
Born April 7, 1828, Oliver Perry (“O.P.”) Light came to Oklahoma to stake a claim in the April 1889 land run.
He was the first Christian minister of any denomination to preach in El Reno.
Local community group looking for book lovers!
The Friends of the Library is a support group for the El Reno Carnegie Library and has been in operation for more than 40 years.
The group exists to advance and encourage appreciation, understanding, enjoyment and public use of the educational and cultural facilities at the library.
The El Reno Arts Council will host four nights of spooky fun at the fourth annual Haunted Trolley, happening Oct. 16, 17, 23 and 24.
This community favorite combines Halloween thrills with a unique celebration of the arts - all made possible through the energy and creativity of local volunteers, including many of El Reno’s youth.
Guests will board the Heritage Express Trolley at the Canadian County Museum and ride into historic downtown El Reno, where haunting surprises await.
First Christian Church’s annual Marketplace is set for Saturday, Sept. 27 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will feature chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans/corn, roll, dessert and drink.
Cost is $12 for adults and $6 for children 12 and under.
There will be a Gourmet Shoppe with homemade food items including baked goods, relishes, jellies and much more, along with homemade cinnamon rolls. Also, a Holiday booth and This-N-That booth.

Reuter was celebrated by friends and museum supporters on her 90th birthday.
She and her late husband, Jack, were instrumental in the founding of the museum in 1970. She continues to volunteer at the museum, assisting her daughter with operations and special events.

A former state corrections officer could face prison time for allegedly providing a cellphone to an inmate.
Maria Isabel Claybal Chavez, 37, was charged Sept. 5 in Canadian County District Court with bringing contraband into a penal institution and communicating unlawfully with a convict.
Assistant District Attorney Cathryn M. Lind signed the charging document.
