Couple to exchange vows at Darlington

Amanda Higgins and Dwight Pape, both of Skiatook, announce their plans to marry Oct. 7 at Darlington Chapel, El Reno.

Higgins is the daughter of Andy and Tracy Higgins of Yukon. She is a 2015 graduate of Canute High School and a 2019 graduate of Oklahoma State University with a dual bachelor of science degree in Agricultural Economics and Accounting.

She graduated in 2021 from Oklahoma State University with a master of science degree in Agricultural Economics. Higgins is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) employed with AgReserves in Pawhuska.

Calumet takes bragging rights over UC Tigers, both clubs state-ranked

Fall baseball bragging rights in the rivalry between Calumet and Union City high schools will stay with the Chieftains following a 16-6 win over the Tigers in a battle of ranked teams.

Calumet, which holds the No.3 spot in the Class B poll, moved to 8-0 on the year with the win over the Tigers.

The Chieftains defeated Canute (4-0) a day earlier and were two days removed from a sweep of the Leedey Invitational.

In defending its Leedey crown, Calumet defeated Fargo-Gage/Fort Supply (9-1), Vici (10-0) and the host in the title game 11-1.

OKC baby to appear on Times Square video

Charlie Layne Leggett of Oklahoma City will appear in the bright lights of Broadway on Saturday, Sept. 9 as part of the annual National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS) Times Square Video presentation. The one-hour video of roughly 500 photographs includes children, teens and adults with Down syndrome from all 50 states. These collective images promote the value, acceptance and inclusion of people with Down syndrome in a very visible way.

Following last year’s 29-7 win over Duncan to secure a fifth straight playoff berth for El Reno High School’s football program, veteran coach Tom Cobble walked across the Memorial Stadium turf and shook Russell Cook’s hand.

“You got hot at the right time,” said Cobble, who was a volunteer coach for the Demons.

For Cook the unspoken message was clear – the Indians now have opponents attention.
