Building committee formed to develop four-story courthouse

A building committee with representatives from all Canadian County departments is being formed as development of a new four-story courthouse on North Choctaw moves to the next stage.

Site work is due to start in June 2025, with construction kicking off in September 2025, construction manager Stan Lingo told Canadian County commissioners this week.

Cole first Native American to chair House Appropriations

U.S. Rep. Tom Cole, a citizen of the Chickasaw Nation, has become the first Native American to chair the House Appropriations Committee and the first congressional member representing Oklahoma to do so. First elected to Congress in 2003, Cole is the longest-serving Native American in congressional history.

El Reno High School senior Grady Lesperance and his shadow seem to have the same thing on their minds, chasing down a foul ball for an out during a recent home game at the Hub Reed Complex.

El Reno returns to the HRC Tuesday for a single game with Noble before hosting U.S. Grant in a twinbill Wednesday.

Indians drop trio in CA tourney

MIDWEST CITY ‒ Playing in its final regular-season tournament, El Reno High School’s baseball team posted a 1-3 record against a stout field at the 2024 Bill Tipton Classic hosted by Carl Albert.

El Reno was placed in the Midwest City pool, one of three in the event, going 1-2 with losses to Cache (11-1) and Midwest City (5-4) in eight innings. The win was a 9-1 decision over Del City.

In the cross-bracket game, El Reno dropped a 13-4 decision to Bethany.

El Reno High School’s baseball team held a Little League Night recently at the Hub Reed Complex.

Players from the El Reno Young Guns took the field with their high school partners for the national anthem and then snagged foul balls during the game.
