Union City wins battle of the walks to split bedlam

UNION CITY – Mother Nature was the hardest batter to strike out as Calumet and Union City’s slow-pitch softball teams closed out the regular season with the second installment of Canadian County bedlam rivalry. Swirling winds played havoc with pitchers from both schools which combined for 20 walks in a 16-5 win by Union City to split the series. Calumet won the first installment 10-4 six days earlier.

Calumet, UC enter playoffs with victories

Calumet High School’s baseball team, the top ranked team in Class B, will take an eight-game win streak into the postseason after winning the Roff Invitational.

The Chieftains move to 14-3 on the spring with the title, beating Allen (8-0), Class B’s sixth-ranked Roff (4-1) and Class 4A’s Ada in the championship.

The win over the Cougars came in extra innings as Calumet scored four runs in the eighth, sparked by a Kaleb Thiessen double, a single by Kyler Thiessen, a Dalton Belcher sacrifice and an RBI-single from Brendon Voss.

Police ask public for help

El Reno police are asking the public for help in finding a man who allegedly fired a gun several times Monday night.

Assistant Police Chief Kirk Dickerson said officers were sent to 1106 Industrial Blvd. at about 9:49 p.m., in reference to a man reportedly firing a gun in the area. Police said reports indicated a white male had fired the gun three times. Police received 911 calls from residents in the area.

The man was described as being a white male with curly brown hair, possibly in a bun. He has a facial tattoo and was wearing a pair of colorful shorts.

Love for the Children

But from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday, her faith is on display inside the Love for the Children Center at 400 W. London. That’s where Chambless helps young mothers and their children make it through another month, providing everything from formula and diapers for the infants to clothes, shoes, books and stuffed animals for the older kids.

Canadian County child advocacy center sees growth

For April’s observance of Child Abuse Awareness Month, Canadian County’s child advocacy center is looking to the community for support as more youth victims come for help.

The Child Abuse Response Team (C.A.R.T.) provides a trauma-informed, child-friendly environment for child victims of abuse and neglect and those who have witnessed domestic violence.

El Reno man dies in I-40 collision

An El Reno man was killed Friday night in a three-vehicle traffic collision on Interstate 40 in Yukon.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol investigated the fatal crash, which occurred about 7:03 p.m. April 12 on eastbound I-40 at Czech Hall Road in eastern Canadian County.

El Reno’s Creed Felton, 24, was pronounced dead at the scene due to an injury suffered in the collision.

A 2017 Mitsubishi Lancer driven by El Reno’s Arron Whiteman, 27, was stopped on the outside shoulder due to a collision in the roadway, according to an OHP report.

Redlands, USAO expand pact to fortify workforce

In a continued effort to address the state’s workforce needs while maximizing resources, the University of Science & Arts of Oklahoma and Redlands Community College are expanding their partnership to provide greater career readiness support, increase the number of graduates with associate and bachelor degrees and grow the teacher pipeline.

“We are excited to announce the expansion of our collaborative efforts with Redlands Community College, aimed at enriching educational pathways and fortifying workforce readiness,” said USAO President Kayla Hale.
