CALUMET – After losing a rare game to close out the month of January, Calumet High School’s boys basketball team kicked off February with a hard-fought victory over cross-county rival Okarche.

Calumet, ranked No.2 in Class A, improved to 20-2 on the season with a 73-61 win over the Warriors in a game that was tied after three periods. The win came a day after the Chieftains dropped a 63-61 double overtime outing to Class A’s sixth-ranked Hydro-Eakly.

CALUMET – Okarche High School’s girls basketball team was kept off the free-throw line for more than 31 minutes of its Class A top five showdown with Calumet over the weekend.

However, the Warriors made 3-of-5 shots when they did get to the line in the final 40 seconds to seal a 54-47 revenge victory over the Chieftains.

“The free throws were key at the end,” said Okarche head coach Kelli Krowes-Jennings, whose team lost to Calumet by the same seven-point margin back in November.

The district level was held in Kingfisher, with Witherspoon hitting 17-of-25 free throws to win the 12- to 13-year-old boys division. Noah now moves on to the state level to be held Feb. 8 in Enid at Chisholm High School. If he wins a state title, Noah would represent Oklahoma at the regional level in Dallas in late March. A win in Texas sends him to nationals in Chicago in April.
