Ross Seed received an $800 grant from True Value to purchase personal protective equipment for the school district. The funds purchased 16 gallons of hand sanitizer, 8 gallons of hand soap and 100 protective masks.

Arrest made in shooting at 7-11

Body

A 21-year-old Oklahoma City man was arrested in connection with a robbery that led to the death of a 7-Eleven clerk last week.

Oklahoma City police said George Way was arrested at an apartment in the 11500 block of SW 15th Street. The arrest was made after police received a tip.

Way was arrested on complaints of first-degree murder and robbery with a firearm.

Maj. Gary Knight, a spokesman for the Oklahoma City Police Department, say Way did not resist when arrested.

VA plans to open new Yukon clinic

Veterans in Canadian County will soon have a closer option for VA health-care services.

The Oklahoma City VA Health Care System said last week it is opening two new clinics this fall, including one in Yukon. The other center will be in Norman.

“The new locations will allow us to continue to meet the needs of our veterans and to provide quality access to care for the many veterans who live in the area,” said Wade Vlosich, director of the Oklahoma City VA.

Zinnias are a bright, shining garden addition

The darling zinnia, whose dutiful countenance is bound to bring garden cheer, survives even during a drought.

The bright and shining little zinnia originated in Mexico where it was once considered a weed.

There is record of the first seeds arriving in Europe around 1627, however, the zinnia remained in quiet obscurity until 1750 when the seeds called mal de ojos were sent by the European ambassador to Johann Gottfried Zinn.

Wesley United Women hold quarterly meeting

United Methodist Women of Wesley United Methodist Church met recently for their unit quarterly meeting in the home of Lillian Ray. Pat Stephens presided as acting president.

It was reported that the conference annual meetings in Oklahoma City would be canceled, with all reports being handled virtually by district officers.

Members held bazaar planning discussion, but because of the current COVID situation, it was uncertain of the status of the bazaar.
