Tommy Stroud

Memorial services for Tommy Lynn Stroud of Minco were held Thursday at First Baptist Church in Minco, under the direction of Huber-Reynolds Funeral Home.

Tommy passed away March 11, 2023, at his home. He was born Nov. 14, 1953, in Anadarko and was raised on a farm in Cogar. He graduated from Minco High School in 1971. Tommy worked for many years in the oil field and later building fences.

Doris Slater

Body

Prayer service for Pearl Doris Slater will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 14 in the Benson Memorial Chapel.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Church with Rev. Lance Warren and Deacon Lloyd Menz officiating. Burial will follow in the El Reno Cemetery under the direction of Huber-Benson Funeral Home.

Doris died March 11, 2023, at her home in El Reno.

Jean Ann Bridges

Jean Ann Bridges, 67 years of age, passed away peacefully in her home Tuesday, March 7, 2023.

Born July 26, 1955, to Thomas Jackson and Mildred Glee McGaughey in Boise City, Okla., she was the youngest of three children. The family settled in El Reno. Jeanie’s parents were educators, her father taught government at El Reno Junior College and her mother taught French at El Reno High School. Consequently, many of Jeanie’s friends attended their classes.

Wade Dean Piersall

Body

Wade Dean Piersall was born March 31, 1955, on a U.S. military base in Frankfurt, Germany to Dean and Peggy Piersall. Wade passed away March 7, 2023, in El Reno.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Peggy and Dean Piersall; grandparents, Clarence (Tiny) and Hazel Royse and Thornton and Della Piersall; and his parents-in-law, Robert and Mary Lund of El Reno.

Wade graduated from Yukon High School. He attended Oklahoma State and was a lifelong OSU fan and felt sorry for those supporting OU.

He was a bull rider for many years and loved the rodeo and horses.

Belva June Whittle

Belva June (Rollins) Whittle passed away March 9, 2023, in El Reno. She was born to Charles and Florence Rollins on March 28, 1930, in Shawnee.

June was a member of the El Reno Study Club, Retired Teachers Association and First Baptist Church. She enjoyed reading, crocheting and spending time with her grandkids. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers and three sisters; and her daughter.

Steve Winkler

Steve Winkler, age 73, died March 6, 2023, after a short illness.

Steve managed, owned and operated S&J Tire in El Reno for over 40 years. People who came in to S&J looking for someone they could trust quickly became lifelong friends and clients, exchanging stories and trivia with Steve while their cars were made safe.

Steve, lovingly known as “B.S.” (Big Steve), was preceded in death by the love of his life, Karon; his mother, Kit, and his father, Bill.

Sonya Lamebull

Funeral services for Sonya Lee Lamebull of Oklahoma City were held Wednesday at Huber-Benson Funeral Home, with burial following at the Lumpmouth Family Cemetery in Geary.

Sonya passed away March 3, 2023. She was born Oct. 13, 1961, in Oklahoma City. She was a graduate of Del City High School and attended Haskell Indian Junior College, now known as Haskell Indian Nations University. Sonya held numerous jobs throughout her life.

She attended the Maranatha Baptist Church in Bethany.

Dwayne Oaks

Graveside services for Dwayne Charles Oaks of Minco were held Thursday at the Hazel Dell Cemetery, under the direction of Huber-Reynolds Funeral Home.

Dwayne passed away March 5, 2023, at his home. He was born March 15, 1937, in Cogar and was raised in the Cogar community.

He joined the Oklahoma Army National Guard and served in Korea. He worked as a truck driver in trucking and transport. He was a member of Hazel Dell Baptist Church.

Betty Jean Wahweah

Body

El Reno resident Betty Jean Wahweah passed away Monday, March 6, 2023, at her home, at the age of 68.

Betty, the daughter of Jimmie and Nancy Mae (Deere) Carbitcher, was born Nov. 26, 1954, in Wewoka.

She graduated with the Bowlegs High School class of 1974, then continued her education at Bacone College.

On May 16, 1975, she married Gene Wahweah in Seminole. Betty and Gene moved to El Reno, where they established their home.

Betty was an avid fan of OU and the Kansas City Chiefs, she also enjoyed fishing and loved attending family activities.
