El Reno High School English teacher Brian Rukes outlined the plan to expand the monument to military veterans at Memorial Stadium during a program that followed the 12th Annual Canadian County Veterans Day Parade.
Organized by the El Reno Chamber of Commerce, the event was held inside the Centre Theatre and featured five Canadian County veterans who were honored as Veterans of the Year. They included Donald Eugene Clark, Ron Edmondson, Jerry Icenhower, Randy Reynolds and Ken Tarter.

El Reno’s Mobile Meals needs some volunteers.
The program that delivers meals to approximately 175 El Reno residents Monday through Friday needs a minimum of 75 volunteers each week, organizers said.
Recently, several long-term volunteers were forced to step away from their service due to health reasons and surgery. To continue serving, Mobile Meals has an urgent need for volunteer delivery drivers.
Canadian County commissioners rejected the only bid received for the sale of land near the county’s juvenile justice center on East Highway 66.
Youth and Family Services submitted an $80,000 bid for the four-acre tract, immediately north of its Donald W. Reynolds Caring Center, 7565 E. Highway 66.
After determining the land was surplus, commissioners accepted a $100,000 appraisal of the public property.
Last week they voted 3-0 to reject Youth and Family Services bid at the recommendation of Assistant District Attorney Tommy Humphries.
El Reno police and Canadian County sheriff's deputies raided a home at 1616 Maroon Drive early on Thursday, resulting in several arrests on complaints of illegal drug sales.
Assistant Police Chief Kirk Dickerson said police worked with the Special Operations Team from the sheriff’s office after obtaining a search warrant for the address.
The Redlands Community College Academic Team traveled to Kansas to compete in the Garden City Invitational, fielding three teams in the competition. The A team went undefeated, winning first place, and the B team finished in third place.
Keira Flenniken and Brody Sadler claimed first and third place, respectively, in individuals.
Last week, four Redlands teams competed at Murray State in the Collegiate Novice Invitational.

Service members make numerous sacrifices in defense of their countries. While the debts to service members may never be the kind that can be repaid in full, paying tribute to veterans, on Veterans Day and throughout the year, can be a great way to show them just how much their efforts are appreciated.
