Redlands Community College receives grant renewal from U.S. Department of Education

The U.S. Department of Education renewed a grant totaling $1.44 million for Redlands Community College’s Veterans Upward Bound (VUB) program for an additional five years, allowing the program’s team to continue expanding the relationships developed with Oklahoma veterans.

Over the past year, Redlands has been successful in serving Oklahoma veterans. The VUB program participated in more than 400 outreach efforts and attended events including the 2022 Oklahoma State Fair, U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs tribal events, Mustang Western Days, Yukon Czech Festival and many more.

Stitt wins second term as governor; Republicans sweep state races

Despite facing an opponent supported by tens of millions of dollars in dark-money political advertisements, Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt decisively won a second term Tuesday night, finishing with more than 55 percent of the vote and momentum heading into another four years of potential conflict with the groups that most opposed his re-election.

White reception set for Thursday

A reception to honor Matt White on his 15 years of service as mayor of El Reno will be held Thursday at the Public Safety Center off SW 27th Street.

Billed as the “Thanks a Lot, Matt White” reception, the come-and-go event will be from 4 to 6 p.m.

Eariler that day, White and El Reno School Superintendent Matt Goucher are scheduled to host the El Reno Now gathering, also at the Public Safety Center. El Reno Now begins at 7:30 a.m.

El Reno grad to make acting debut on popular Yellowstone TV series

Many people have watched the hit series Yellowstone, or at least have heard of the series. What many may not know is Christian Wassana, a citizen of the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes of Oklahoma, will be debuting in his first acting role in Season 5, set to begin Sunday, Nov. 13.

Wassana’s character will be introduced in Season 5 of Yellowstone.

The 2022 Canadian County Veterans Day Parade was held in downtown El Reno over the weekend.

The parade, put on by the El Reno Chamber of Commerce included American flags, soldiers from the famed Oklahoma National Guard’s 45th Infantry, vintage and sports cars, entries from local and county businesses, churches and nonprofit groups.

The El Reno High School Band also marched in the event.

Aerospace company to invest $120 million in Burns Flat port

CLINTON - Premium Aerospace Center (PAC) announced a $120 million investment in a new hangar facility at the Oklahoma Air and Space Port in Burns Flat.

The project will include the expansion of two existing hangars along with the construction of a brand new hangar to accommodate airplane painting and maintenance. 

“We are excited to bring the first hangar facility of this kind to Oklahoma,” said PAC General Manager Lucas Conde.
