Larry Johnson

Graveside services for Larry Ray Johnson will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, 2020, in the Evergreen Cemetery in Minco.

Mr. Johnson passed away Aug. 7, 2020, at Integris Deaconess Medical Center in Oklahoma City. He was born Sept. 18, 1954, in Chickasha.

In 1984, Larry began his career at Tinker Air Force Base, where he was a member of the Junk Yard Dogs. He continued his employment at Tinker Air Force Base until retirement in 2015.

Willadean Woodworth

Private family services for Willadean Woodworth of Minco were held under the direction of Huber-Reynolds Funeral Home.

Deanie passed away Aug. 24, 2020, at St. Katharine Drexel Retirement Center in El Reno. She was born May 15, 1934, in Chickasha, and graduated from Minco High School. Deanie assisted in running the Woodworth family business. She was a member of Minco First Baptist Church and served as president of the Oklahoma State Gideon Auxiliary.

Carl B. Elmenhorst

Born September 24, 1924, in El Reno - Died August 24, 2020, in El Reno

Carl was the fifth of 12 children, with eight brothers and three sisters, born to Anton and Mary Irene (Kappus) Elmenhorst. Carl graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1948 and later served in the Army at Fort Lewis, Wash., from 1951-1953.

During his enlistment he married Jerry Ann Olander on July 3, 1952, who predeceased him on Nov. 2, 1988. He married Darla Gleason Knott on Dec. 24, 1990, who predeceased him on Sept. 12, 1993.

Council race develops

Body

A race has developed for the Ward 1 El Reno City Council seat.

Canadian County Election Board Secretary Wanda Armold said Jacqueline Stevenson-Smith, 42, filed for the seat on Monday, while Steve Jensen, 53, filed on Tuesday. The filing period closes at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 26.

The position will be filled in the Nov. 3 General Election, with the top vote-getter winning the term that runs until Nov. 12, 2024.

Fly-in frenzy

Body

On a sun-drenched Saturday a crowd estimated at some 2,000 converged on the El Reno Regional Airport for the first-ever Fly-In and Community Day.

What they saw was history take to the skies as some 80 airplanes, many with military backgrounds, rested along the open areas of the airport, while vintage planes zipped into the air, taking passengers for rides and providing an aerial show not seen here in years.

York retirement

Body

A retirement party was held recently at the El Reno Post Office for Vicki York. Klay Kitchel presented York a service award for 32 years, nine months. York started out as a city carrier for 10 years and spent the remaining years as a distribution/window clerk. (Courtesy photo)
