El Reno High School baseball player Ryker Crain leaps into the air to make a throw toward first base during the Indians junior varsity game with Putnam City Orange to kick off summer league action.

Crain was getting extra time at a different position after playing third base in the varsity game.

El Reno defeated the Pirates in both games, with varsity winning 19-0 and the junior varsity 10-0.

First camp

Josh Davis held his first youth skills camp as head coach of the El Reno High School boys basketball program.

Thirty-seven players in grades 2-8 went through three days of skills challenges, layup and shooting contests as well as one-on-one and 5-on-5 team games.

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Haliegh Renae Salazar, age 18, of El Reno. Haliegh passed away tragically and far too soon on May 22, 2026, leaving behind a family, community and countless friends who loved her deeply and will forever cherish the memories she gave them.

Quincy NiKee Jones

Quincy NiKee Jones Jr. passed away May 22, 2026, at the young age of 19. He was born in Oklahoma City on March 12, 2007, to Quincy NiKee Jones Sr. and Jessica Leadine Carter. 

Quincy started pre-kindergarten in El Reno and continued his education at El Reno Public Schools, where he graduated on May 16, 2026. During his senior year, Quincy also attended and graduated from the Canadian Valley Tech, completing his underground utility locating technician program, along with earning his National Technical Honor Society recognition.

El Reno teens killed in crash

Body

Four young people, three of them from El Reno, were killed in a crash early Friday involving a wrong-way driver along Interstate 40.

Reports from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol said the accident occurred near Czech Hall in Yukon around 12:30 a.m. 

The three El Reno teenagers killed were Quincy Jones, 19, Brad Palmer, 18, and Haleigh Salazar, 18

 Also killed was the driver, 20-year-old Kiercey Hickson from Stillwater.

The driver of the wrong-way vehicle was taken to Integris Baptist Hospital in critical condition.

The unsinkable Millie Sullens

Body

Millie Sullens knows the secrets to living a long life. Come June 15, she’ll have had 100 years to figure it out. But it certainly didn’t take her a century to figure out what it’s all about. 

“It’s good genes,” said the feisty Sullens, who is known around El Reno for being one of the happiest kids on the block. And she might add, love for dancing, as well as good friends, are important ingredients.

Hey Dolly! Imagine that, 75,000 books and counting

Body

Some 75,000 free books have been placed in the mailboxes of Canadian County children, thanks to the efforts of the county affiliate for the Dolly Parton Imagination Library.

Wesley United Methodist Church El Reno and the City of El Reno Carnegie Library partnered in January 2023 to bring the program to El Reno, Calumet and Union City.

In the summer of 2024, the program expanded to all of Canadian County, and 1,330 books were delivered that first month.

Well blowout

Body

A salt water disposal well on SH 66 in Calumet blew out Friday morning.

Witnesses said there were no injuries.

A team from Devon was expected to arrive on site to cap the well.
