Jerry Jones was born June 11, 1962, in Coffeyville, Kansas. He passed away peacefully on Oct. 19, 2025, at the age of 63. 

Jerry spent most of his life in Kingfisher, where he graduated from Kingfisher High School. After high school Jerry went on to work as a truck driver, which spanned for many years of his life.

Jerry could often be found cooking on his smoker, fishing in the tranquility of nature or engaging in his unique hobby of snake hunting, or spending time with family and friends.

Jeffery Carder

Body

Jeffery Kent Carder of Henderson, Nevada, passed away Aug. 21, 2025. He was born Jan. 9, 1963, in El Reno.

He was the owner and operator of Carder Distributorship for Sara Lee.

Jeffery is survived by his wife, Teresa; sons, Jake Carder and Jason Rogers; and siblings, Kimberly Carder-Weldon and Tom Weldon of Arlington, Texas, Kent Carder, Brent Carder, Lincoln Carder, Lacey Carder Holden and Travis Carder.

Snagging up honors

Eight El Reno High School softball players, five of those underclassmen, earned spots on two of the teams making up the 2025 All-District 5A-2 honors.

El Reno went 5-5 in district play, finishing fourth, while sporting a 13-18 overall record.

The slate included 10 games against Class 6A schools and 22 outings against ranked opponents – four of those in the top five of respective polls.

George Fitzhugh Jr.

Graveside memorial services for George Lester Fitzhugh Jr. will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1 at the Watonga IOOF Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Turner Funeral Home.

George passed away Oct. 24, 2025, at The Heritage at Brandon Place in Oklahoma City. He was born Jan. 26, 1945, in El Reno, and attended Geary schools.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. George worked for PepsiCo and later for Athenian Marble where he was employed for 20 years. In 1988, George founded Fitzhugh Termite and Pest Control.

Three land All-Suburban Conference VB laurels

El Reno High School’s volleyball team, which placed third in the league, landed three players on the 2025 All-Suburban Conference team - voted on by member coaches.

The Indians, ranked 14th in Class 5A, closed the season with a 4-2 mark in league action and 19-14 for the season.

El Reno reached the championship round of the regional playoffs before bowing out.

The effort landed a first-team pick on the all-conference team for sophomore Radley Miller.

Brantlie Charmasson was tabbed for the second team and Daily Maples was named honorable mention.

Owen punches state ticket in third regional

Body

In her third appearance in the postseason, El Reno High School junior Lily Owen punched her ticket to this weekend’s Class 5A State Cross Country Championships.

Running in the 5A West Regional in Moore, Owen posted a time of 22 minutes and 16.77 seconds to place 20th overall. Her time was good enough to grab the second individual state pass handed out from the meet.

It’s the second year for El Reno to send a female runner to state. 

Owen’s third trip to regional was her best time, beating her freshman time by 5:44 and last year’s mark by 50 seconds.

Alexa Babb

Alexa Mechea Babb, born Dec. 6, 1988, passed away Oct. 24, 2025, at the age of 36. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Alexa is survived by her mother, Angela Graves-Davis and stepfather, Tod Davis; her father, Archie Tallant; brother, Austin Tallant; sons, Jaden, Jesse and Julis; her loving husband, Joe Babb, and his children, Austin, Ashton, Christian and Madelyn. She is also survived by her grandparents, Sandra Graves-Holbrook and Ron and Alecia Graves; along with many other cherished family members and friends.

Cynthia Laub

Funeral services for Cynthia Ann Laub will be at held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 1 at Huber-Benson Funeral Home with Rev. Tara Dew officiating.

Cynthia died Oct. 26, 2025, at her home in El Reno. She was born March 24, 1959, in Henryetta.

She was an in-home caregiver for many years and supervisor of environmental services for hospitals including Parkview and Mercy.
