El Reno couple celebrate 50th anniversary

Dale and Debbie Curtis recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Dale Curtis and Debbie Fowler were married Aug. 17, 1974, in El Reno.

The couple have two sons, Dallas and Heidi Curtis of El Reno and Dustin and Jennifer Curtis of Yukon, and five grandchildren, Samantha, Ruby, Wade, Colt and Owen.

Carolyn Rogers

Carolyn Ann Rogers, 83, passed away Aug. 13, 2024, at her home in Lampasas, Texas. She was born Aug. 2, 1941, in El Reno to Heber Delwin and Catherine Ann (Haney) Goad.

The family will have a small, private celebration of her wonderful life and love on Aug. 31, 2024.

Carolyn grew up in El Reno and graduated from El Reno High School. After high school, Carolyn attended college at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater and received a bachelor’s degree in education. She began working as an elementary teacher, which brought her to Texas.

On July 9, Attorney General Gentner Drummond sent a letter to Superintendent of Public Instruction Ryan Walters chastising the superintendent for failing to comply with the Open Records Act.

Local Scout completes Eagle project

Body

James Elliott has been working to attain his Eagle Scout rank. He has been in the Scouts since he was 5 years old.

Elliott recently completed his Eagle Scout project. He built an engraved wooden bench that will rest at The Lord’s Harvest, an El Reno nonprofit food ministry. The Lord’s Harvest is operated by its founder, Nikki Pruitt.

Elliott and his grandparents, DeDe and John Henderson, recently presented and dedicated the project, known as “Sitting with God.”

Jeffrey Keena

Jeffrey Robert Keena died Sunday, Aug. 18, 2024, at his home in El Reno. Jeff was born in El Reno on Jan. 4, 1960, to Dr. Robert Keena and Vera (Page) Keena Stovall.

Jeff was an avid motorcycle rider and enjoyed classic cars and spending time with family.

United Way Partner Agencies receive Love’s donation

Body

United Way of Canadian County’s 13 Partner Agencies received a donation of $6,000 each in honor of Love’s 60th anniversary.

The company surprised United Way of Central Oklahoma by donating $408,000 to the 2024-2025 Annual Campaign and designating $6,000 to each of the 68 United Way Partner Agencies, including Logan and Canadian counties.

The $408,000 total donation is expected to help address issues from homelessness to food insecurities and crisis intervention.

James Sisemore

James Allen Sisemore, born Oct. 22, 1949, passed away in his home surrounded by friends and family on Aug. 17, 2024. 

Born in Plainview, Texas, to his parents, James and Anita Sisemore, James was a graduate of Plainview High School. After high school, he would go on to attend electronic school in Oklahoma City. Before he moved on to heat and air at Canadian Valley Technology Center where he learned to become a heat and air technician, James joined the United States Air Force in 1970, and was honorably discharged 23 years later in 1993.

Elks stop Indians win streak

Body

Stymied to four hits, El Reno High School’s fast-pitch softball team had its four-game win streak snapped by the host of last week’s 2024 Elk City Festival.

The Elks handed El Reno a 6-2 setback which dropped the Indians to 1-1 overall for the festival and 4-2 for the season. Bri Michalicka’s team opened the event with an 8-3 win over Leedey.

El Reno’s bats were held to a pair of singles by Micah Woods and Sarah Hernandez in the loss.
